“Not oysters?”

He laughs. “You don’t like oysters.”

The bruschetta is beautifully presented with crispy bread, chopped tomatoes, and basil leaves. It tastes great too, as there’s a hint of garlic. I don’t waste any time devouring mine.

“This is a little weird,” Fitz says. “I know we’ve spent Valentine’s Day together before, but…”

“This feels different?”

“Yeah.”

“My stomach appreciates all the trouble you’ve gone to.”

Fitz laughs. He picks up some of the blossom petals, rubbing them between his fingers before smelling them. “It’s sweet.”

“Like you.”

He blushes. “Seriously, you’ve made everything look beautiful.”

“I was being serious too.” I stroke his hand. “You’re the sweetest person I know, Fitz.”

“Aww, Addy, you say all the right things.”

“Don’t brush it off with humour. I mean it.”

He gives me a sweet smile. “I know. I’m still getting used to hearing you say things like that. But for the record, you’re amazing.”

He picks up our plates and hurries through to the kitchen before I can say another word, returning a few minutes later with two platefuls of food that make my mouth water.

“You made steak? I thought you were doing pork?”

“That was when I was cooking for you and your blind date, so I needed to pick the safe option. You love steak.”

“You made it just how I like it.”

“Medium rare,” he says, beaming.

I cut into the steak and taste it. “Oh, God.” It’s amazing. I close my eyes so I can savour it. The flavours are perfect, and it practically melts in my mouth. “This is perfect, Fitz. Thank you.”

I open my eyes to find him on the verge of having a fit of giggles.

“What?”

“I, umm, you had that same expression on your face when you tried the pink champagne cupcakes the other day.”

“It’s my ‘this is fucking amazing’ face.”

“Okay.”

“What face did youthinkit was?”

He presses his lips together. “Never mind.”

“Tell me?”

“I was wondering if your orgasm face was similar.”

I raise my eyebrows. “I have no idea.” I take a gamble. “I’m sure you’ll find out one day.”
