I get on my knees at his feet, rest my hands on his knees, and stare up into his dark blue eyes. “I did a lot of thinking last night.”

“Oh?”

“And I talked to my brothers.”

It's clear Hamish is holding his breath because he's completely motionless. I've never seen him nervous before, so it's adorable that he is as he waits for my answer.

“I’d love to move in with you, Sir.”

His face brightens, a wide smile parting his lips. He takes hold of my face, encouraging me to push up on my knees so he can kiss me. I close my eyes, tilting my head back as his lips and tongue command mine. My body tingles with desire for him, and the love in my heart grows with each passing second. I know beyond any doubt that I’ve made the right decision.

"There's just one thing…" I whisper as the kiss ends.

“Oh?”

I wince. “I need to quit my job as your PA.”

He breathes in slowly and then nods. “I thought you might. It’s a damn shame, though.”

“I know. I’m the best PA you’ve ever had.”

“Aye, you are, no joking at all. Must you?”

“Yes, Sir. I don’t think it would be healthy for us. It’s been fun for a couple of months, but long term? I don’t think we’d survive the strain of doingeverythingtogether. Plus…” I hesitate.

“Spit it out,” Hamish commands.

"I need to know I can be financially independent if I need to be." I stare into his eyes, hoping he'll understand.

“That makes sense.”

“You’re okay with it?”

“Am I okay with losing you as my PA? Not really. But it’s a small price to pay for having you live here with me. I’d rather fall asleep with you and wake up beside you every day than have you organise my work life.”

“I’d still like sneak peeks of your writing,” I say hopefully.

“You can count on that. I’ll be happy to read each of Lee’s chapters to you while we’re snuggled in bed.” He kisses my forehead. “I guess we should talk about when you’ll move in. I’m going to go out on a limb and say you won’t be until you’ve got a new job.”

“Do you mind?”

“Not at all. Whatever you feel most comfortable with, Archie.”

“I’ll probably spend most nights here anyway,” I say with a laugh.

“Aye, probably.”

“But officially, I’ll still be living with Blake and Corey until I have a new job. I’ll call the agency this morning and tell them I’m quitting.”

“I can fire you if it’ll help. Spencer, Calvin, and Gabe all advised me to sack you weeks ago so I could sleep with you without feeling guilty about it.”

I laugh. “For what it’s worth, I’m glad you didn’t.”

“Me too. Damn stupid advice. They meant well.”

"I don't think sacking me would look good on my employment history." I grimace. "Nor will a two-month stint in a job."

“I’ll give you a glowing reference.”
