15Jared

They were lying together in a post-orgasmic haze, which they’d held off long enough to get cleaned up. Jared was on his back, with Kyrone on his side, one arm and one leg draped possessively over him and his head resting on Jared’s chest.

“That was amazing,” Jared whispered when he felt awake enough to talk. “You were amazing.”

“Aren’t I always?”

“Yes.” He ran his fingers over his lover’s coarse hair. “My Adonis.”

Kyrone chuckled and then turned his face to kiss Jared in the dip between his breast bones.

“Your family was really nice,” Jared said.

“Even though Mum gave you a bit of a hard time?”

“She was being protective. You’ll probably get similar treatment from my family when you meet them.”

Kyrone rested his chin on Jared’s chest so he could look him in the eyes. “Probably?”

“I don’t really know. I don’t have any memory of taking a boyfriend home to meet them, but I must have at some point.”

“Do they know you’re gay?”

Jared frowned. “I… don’t know.”

“You haven’t talked to them about your sexuality since the accident?”

Jared shook his head. “We really don’t talk about much.” He sighed. “You probably think that’s messed up.”

“It must be hard to confide in them when you don’t know them,” Kyrone said gently.

“It is. I suppose I just assumed that they would know everything there was to know about me—everything I’d forgotten. It didn’t really occur to me that I might need to come out to them.” Jared let out a sigh. “Your niece and nephews were fun.”

“You’re changing the subject.”

Jared smiled. “You noticed?”

“It wasn’t exactly subtle.” Kyrone laid his head back down on Jared’s chest. “Do you ever think about having kids?”

Jared’s breath caught in his throat. “No,” he admitted. “Do you?”

“Yes. A lot. Mum wants me to have kids.” He chuckled. “She even mentioned surrogacy earlier.” He stroked Jared’s chest. “One of her objections to you was that you’re five years younger than me. She said we’re at different places in our lives.”

Jared grimaced. “She probably has a point and not just because I’m younger. I have to focus on getting well.”

He couldn’t help but wonder where Kyrone was going with the conversation and why he’d waited so long to have it. They could have talked about his mother’s reservations on the way home, or when they’d got back to Kyrone’s flat. Instead, they’d come home, Kyrone had gone to work, and then they’d woken up and had amazing sex. Then again, hewas the one who had brought up the visit to Kyrone’s family yesterday, so maybe he’d put the thought into Kyrone’s head.

“I want kids,” Kyrone said. “One day.”

Jared didn’t know what to say other than to reiterate that he hadn’t thought about it at all.

“I think I’d like to adopt,” Kyrone told him. “I know you haven’t thought about it, but do you think you might want to adopt one day too?”

Jared’s eyes widened. He was part confused, part overwhelmed by the question. Had things got more serious between them than he’d realised? They hadn’t even said that they loved each other. Talking about kids seemed somewhat premature.

“I… don’t know,” he stammered.

“Sorry,” Kyrone said. “I’m only thinking about it because Mum brought it up.” He went back to kissing Jared’s chest lazily.
