I press my mouth to hers, thrusting my tongue between her lips and kissing her quiet. My cock stirs as I slide my arm along her back and haul her against me. With a final, piercing rip, my suit splits, liberating my wings.

My cock extrudes, straining my pants.

When I tug up her skirt, indulging impulses I’ve restrained all day, she sinks into my embrace. She whimpers, flooding me with her desire.

The elevator dings. The door opens, closes, and we miss it entirely.

I tug down her bodice and cup her breast under her bra, teasing her nipple with my thumb. Moaning, she falls against the wall as I haul her leg up my hip. My bulge rips free. I bend and arch, pressing it between her legs.

There’s another ding.

“Summer!?”

We tear apart and face Ella, who’s standing wide-eyed in the middle of the open elevator door.

“I can explain!” Summer squeals, righting her dress. “Don’t scream!”

Ella’s gaze streaks from my outstretched wings to my clawed feet and finally settles on my face. Her mouth parts as the elevator doors close. At the last moment, she stops them with her hand.

The doors swish open revealing her narrowed, intense gaze. She shuffles into the elevator, only turning to ensure her voluminous dress passes the threshold. Summer grabs my shredded suit jacket off of the ground and thrusts it in front of my groin. I hold it in place.

“Ella?” Summer asks tentatively as her friend presses the button to the top floor and turns back around to face us. “I’m sorry…”

Ella eyes me up and down suspiciously. “You weren’t lying. Heisa gargoyle.”

“I wasn’t.”

“I kinda liked thinking you were a little crazy.”

Summer snorts. “You wish.”

Ella and I stare at each other as the floors pass.

“You’re not going to tell anyone are you?” Summer asks.

“Can’t you just turn yourself back into a human?” Ella answers with a question, directing it at me.

My wings ripple. “I’m only human during the day. I do not have control over my body’s shift.”

“That’s got to suck.”

I nod.

“Ella…” Summer prompts. “We need to get him out of sight until morning.”

She crosses her arms and sighs. “You’re in the hotel across the street?”

“I was thinking if we made it to the roof, we could fly over once it’s dark enough and hopefully enter from the top.”

Ella’s eyes somehow widen further. “You can fly?”

“I can.”

“Fuck. Now, that’s really crazy.”

For discovering the truth of my nature, Ella is far more calm than I expected. Even Summer tried to run, and when she couldn’t, she grabbed a weapon.

“You are quite comfortable,” I say, “with what is in front of you.”
