Zeph’s brooding features slowly returned to normal. “Why?”
“I like the way you make me feel.”
“I like the way you make me feel, too.”
Janet smiled softly.
He drew her face toward him, and she went willingly, her belly rioting with butterflies. His mouth landed gently upon hers, starting with a caress as their lips rubbed together. Zeph coaxed a moan from her throat, and she parted her mouth, allowing his tongue to slip inside. The heat of his tongue nearly burned her but she was desperate for more—more of him, more of the comfort he gave her, and the promise that he’d always remain by her side.
Janet closed her eyes, begging the universe to slow time down, and willing this moment to last forever. She dragged her tongue across his lip, allaying all her chaotic emotions in a lingering kiss.
She whimpered when he drew back and released her. His hands moved down her body to warm up her flesh. The city landscape was nothing but shadows and distant lights outside. The sun had barely set before they’d entered the club, and the night had just taken over.
“You’re back to normal,” she whispered. The tension from before had disappeared with the kiss. She played with a lock of his amber hair. “I miss you when you’re gone.”
“There’s no point in missing something that never plans to leave you.” His lips tugged up into a smile. “I’m always right here even when it seems like I’m not.” He grasped her waist and pulled her closer. She melted in the embrace, in his heat.
“Where do you go?” she asked.
“Inside my head.”
Janet cocked her head. “Is that all?”
“You really want more from me, don’t you?”
“That so bad?”
His smile grew. “Curiosity kills a lot more than just cats, sweetheart.”
“I never thought a powerful, near-godlike man such as yourself would ever evade the questions of a girl who poses no threat to you,” she teased.
“You don’t live as long as I have and not know when to keep secrets,” Zeph teased her back. His hands petted her back, eliciting quiet moans of pleasure from her throat.
Janet let the feeling pass and sighed with contentment. “Do you think we’ll ever stop arguing?”.
“It would be a tragedy and a personal failure if I didn’t at least make your skin blush in frustration at least once every cycle.”
“Asshole.”
“Maneater.”
They grinned in unison.
His body hummed with music, filling the small space.
“I love your crocodilian song,” she said, letting the vibration of it thrum straight through her.
Suddenly, his grin faltered. His petting stopped. She watched as much as she felt the teasing mood shift between them. She didn’t have time to question it before his mouth was back on hers. Her sex clenched as her body begged for fulfillment.
The kiss wasn’t soft like the previous one but demanding—greedy. A bubble burst between them, striking at where they were both vulnerable. Her nails dug into the fabric of his suit. She wanted to move with him like the dancers had moved in the club, wanted to feel his tall, serpentine body bump and grind against hers. But this was better. This was intimate.
His tongue thrust into her mouth and she gasped from the abrupt domination. Her hands came up to clutch his shoulders, wringing the fabric of his suit between her fingers. Janet sucked on his tongue before jerking back.
“More. I need more.” She needed to bridge whatever gaps remained between them. She wanted to feel him against her, insideher.
Zeph gripped her hips and lifted her as if she weighed nothing, the top of her head pressing into the roof of the vehicle. She tore at his suit jacket and got it down his arms as he yanked the fabric of her dress up to her chest. The heat coming off his frame blasted her bare skin, making the small hairs on her body stand. A laugh escaped her as they fought their way to each other in the confined space, banging their limbs against everything around them.
She caught sight of his face as her dress was yanked over her head, and her happiness bloomed when his smile returned. They reached down together, knocking their hands as they frantically worked at the buckle of his pants. She was pushed into the air as his hips came upward so he could shove the material down his thighs.
