“Whatever this is, let it just be ours,” Maya said, leaning in closer to both women.
Ours.
“Now, can we get to the copious amounts of gay sex? You know, as a big fuck you to the current status of the Sunshine State?”
Maya laughed, a full laugh that rumbled her belly.
Lily.
“Of course, copious amounts, for advocacy reasons,” Maya agreed.
“Okay but first I need grease, and I need to hydrate,” Hanna said.
“Hmmmm but first we need a make-up kiss,” Maya countered and leaned in.
They all leaned in to press their lips together playfully, laughing at the initial awkwardness of the three-way kiss, and in that moment, even over the scent of the chlorine in the water, all Maya could feel and smell was them.

HANNA
“Just what I needed,” Hanna said, drinking down the last of her second coffee and hot chocolate to wash down the spectacular breakfast sandwich she’d just finished. To be honest, she wasn’t even sure what combo of egg, meat, and cheese Maya had ordered; all that mattered was that there had been plenty of grease. She felt the world steady around her as her hangover haze began to recede.
They had all showered and were currently sporting swimsuits, poolside. They’d each swum in the pool while they waited for the food Maya ordered because Hanna was “not yet fit for society”. Hanna had pulled out lounge chairs, and they’d arranged them so they were all facing each other next to the pool.
The sun was high in the sky now, as the afternoon rays shone down on them through the glass. Thank goodness Hanna’s parents had opted for the UV blocking option and temperature control, though Hanna wasn’t sure it was particularly environmentally friendly. At least the house wasn’t used that often, outside of family vacations and some Airbnb bookings to pay for the property taxes.
“Feeling better, Banana?” Lily asked, as she stretched her arms out behind her on the lounger.
“God yes,” Hanna exclaimed, turning her attention to both Maya and Lily. Maya was wearing a lime green bikini that looked incredible against her skin and hair, while Lily wore a pair of black swim shorts, a white cap (backwards of course)and a purple sports bra. Hanna had opted for a blue low-back one-piece. She loved not wearing a bra and the assurance that all was still contained without one. Plus, judging by the way Lily appreciatively gazed back, she knew she looked good in it.
The conversation of the morning still hung in the air, but it wasn’t tense; it was more like an airy cloud that settled around them.
“What time is it?” Hanna asked.
“Oh wow, it’s almost one,” Maya responded, looking at her phone.
“Time flies,” Lily began, “when you’re nursing your bratty lover’s hangover.” She laughed along with Maya.
“Excuse me? Bratty?” Hanna said incredulously.
“Bratty!” Lily said. “You are such a brat.”
“I am not!” Hanna countered, her face heating as she watched Maya and Lily exchange a look.
“It’s okay, we have decided not to vote you off the island,” Maya joked, and Lily smirked.
“Is that how it’ll work? We have a democratic system, do we?” Hanna asked. She was thankful for the calm and easy vibe they had going on, but there was a part of her that also needed to understand the mechanics of their newly decided relationship.
“Hmmm I think we need to make a beer run first, I was promised drinks by the pool!” Lily said, standing and moving to re-enter the house.
“You are such a frat boy,” Hanna called after Lily’s disappearing figure.
“Yeah let’s get some clothes on and grab some drinks. We don’t have to get only beer,” Maya said lovingly to Hanna, and kissed the top of her head.
“Did you just kiss me on top of my head like a child?” Hanna asked, walking behind Maya into the blissfully cool house.
“Ah, Hanna don’t make it weird, you are no child,” Maya said over her shoulder as they made their way to the largest bedroom. “I just know we have to make sure our brat is taken care of and our brat doesn’t always want beer.” They entered the bedroom, where they found Lily.
