“Hey, I wondered where you’d gone,” the woman said to Morgan. Her gaze flicked toward me, but didn’t linger.“Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” Morgan said easily as she finished her cocktail.“Liam here offered to buy me a birthday drink.”
“Oh, that was nice.”The woman glanced between us again, her expression uncertain.“We were about to head out, but we can wait until you’re done.”
Morgan shook her head, her gaze cutting to mine. Those green orbs were captivating and allowed me to see every emotion she was feeling. The woman was an open book, and she clearly wanted me just as much as I wanted her.
“No, you don’t have to do that,” she said, glancing back at the other woman with a reassuring smile.“You guys can go ahead and leave.”
“Are you sure?”her friend asked.“Becca’s the designated driver.”
“I’m sure,” Morgan insisted.“I’ll get an Uber home.”
Her friend looked at me again, warily, her brows drawn together.I had to respect that. She was being protective of her friend.
“Don’t worry, Whit,” Morgan said, a slight smile on her lips.“I’m taking your advice.I’m not wasting my time.”
I didn’t know what that meant, but her friend clearly did.The guarded look on her face cleared and she nodded.“Okay.But I want you to text me later so that I know you’re safe.”
The two women hugged and her friend walked away, joining a group that included the pregnant woman whose card was declined.A soft touch on my arm brought my attention back to Morgan, who was leaning toward me again with a very sensual smile on her face.
“What do you think about getting out of here?”she asked.
My pulse kicked hard.I already wanted her, but there was something about the confidence in her tone, the certainty, that lit up every nerve inside me.A bold woman was hot as hell, and I always appreciated one who knew what she wanted and didn’t hesitate to ask for it.
“There’s a hotel across the street,” I said, my voice rougher than I’d intended.I’d noticed it earlier on my walk to the bar.It was close, convenient, and right now, the only option that didn’t involve waiting.
Morgan slid off her stool, standing so close that I could feel the heat of her body and inhale that intoxicating scent of jasmine and vanilla.
“Then let’s go,” she murmured.
It was the only invitation I needed.I closed out my tab and grabbed her hand, leading her out of the bar and into the night.
Whatever this evening turned into, I already knew one thing for certain. For tonight, Morgan was mine, and I was going to enjoy every single second of fucking her.
CHAPTER FOUR
Morgan
The hotel exudedunderstated luxury, with gleaming marble flooring in the lobby along with brass and mahogany accents throughout.I caught sight of a bar, and I could hear piano music drifting from the lounge, but Liam and I weren’t interested in another public setting. With my hand in his, we headed straight to the check-in desk.
He surprised me by asking for the best suite they had.I didn’t argue. If he wanted to spend a fortune on a hotel room for just one night, who was I to stop him?
The room was on the top floor and certainly extravagant, with a massive king-sized bed and floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a breathtaking view of the city.New York was truly amazing, I sometimes forgot how alluring it could be since I’d lived here my entire life. But seeing it from this point of view, with tall buildings lit up against the night sky, I was awed by the splendor of it all.
Liam crossed to a small sitting area and picked up the laminated room service menu on a round table by the sofa and perused the offerings.“Ah, yes. This is perfect.”
He picked up the phone before I could ask what he was talking about and pressed a button.
“Do you still have room service available?”he asked the person on the other end of the line.“Great.Please send up a slice of cake.”He glanced back at me and asked, “Vanilla or chocolate?”
“I…umm, chocolate.”
He repeated my preference into the phone, then hung up.
I raised an eyebrow at him.“You ordered me cake?”
He shrugged.“I thought it was only fitting that I treat you to a slice for your birthday since I know how much you like it.”He grinned at me.“I pay attention, Morgan.”
