Nine Months Later

Today was Morgan’sbirthday.Which meant it had been exactly one year since the day we met. There was a lot to celebrate.

I’d gotten pretty good at spoiling my girl over the past year, but I wanted to plan something special for today. She was out to dinner with her friends—a birthday tradition, apparently—but I was meeting up with her afterward at the same bar where we’d first met.

While I waited, I ordered a drink from the bartender and checked my phone to see a text from Parker.

Heading home for the night.See you tomorrow.

I smiled and sent back a quick confirmation.Parker had been out of rehab for two weeks now and was back at GalvaTech, but we had strict protocols in place.A probationary period where his computer activity was monitored, random drug tests were given, and he checked in with me via text when he left the office each day.He also had mandatory meetings at NA that he had to attend daily, at least initially.

It was decided I should be the one he reported to instead of his stepfather. There’d been a lot of rebuilding of trust in the family over the past nine months, and Samuel didn’t think it would be healthy for their relationship if he had to be the one keeping a close eye on Parker.

I honestly didn’t mind.I was proud of Parker. He’d worked his ass off to get clean and stay that way.For Becca. For Gracie. For their son, Adam.

I tucked my phone away just as the bar door opened and Morgan walked in.I’d arranged for Whitney to drop her off, so she was alone as she strolled to the bar, giving me a moment to look her over.

We lived together now, but I wasn’t home when she left for dinner, so I didn’t see what dress she’d decided to wear.It was a deep red color and cut low in front, exposing a lot of cleavage and making my mouth go dry as I watched her breasts bounce with each step. The hem came to around mid-thigh, and her black boots reached her knees, leaving just a glimpse of smooth, tanned leg.Enough to make my dick twitch in my pants and ignite my desire for her.

She walked to the bar without looking at me, even though she came to stand right next to where I sat.I grinned and made no effort to hide the fact that I was staring as she caught the bartender’s attention and ordered a Sex on the Beach, the same drink I’d bought her a year ago.

When he handed it over, she opened her little black clutch and frowned.“Oh, no.”Her voice was perfectly distressed. If I didn’t know her so well, I might have bought it.“I can’t find my credit card.”

“How about I buy your drink for you?”I suggested with a wolfish grin.

This whole recreation of our first meeting had been my idea, but the spark of excitement in her eyes told me Morgan was loving every second of it.

“I don’t know,” she said, biting her bottom lip.“I don’t usually accept drinks from strangers.”

I held out my hand.“I’m Liam.”

“Morgan.”She placed her hand in mine.

I brought it to my lips, brushing a soft kiss across her knuckles.Even after a year together, the connection between us still sizzled.

“Now we’re not strangers,” I said, my voice dropping lower.

“I suppose I can accept your offer then.”She slid onto the stool beside mine, taking a sip of her drink while I signaled the bartender to put it on my tab.“So, what do you do when you’re not hanging around in bars buying drinks for random women?”

I sipped my bourbon, keeping my eyes on her over the rim of my glass.“I own a company that invests in other businesses.”

She grinned.“Does that mean you go in and start bossing people around? That must drive everyone crazy.”

I smirked.“The women seem to like my bossy ways.”Especially her.

She arched one perfect eyebrow.“Oh, really?”

“Really.”I leaned closer, lowering my voice so only she could hear.“Just yesterday, I had a sexy as fuck woman bent over her own desk, stifling her cries of pleasure so the whole office wouldn’t figure out what I was doing to her.”

Her breath hitched and that lovely blush of hers swept across her cheeks.I watched her pupils dilate as she relived that particular afternoon.Completely unprofessional and definitely a risk to have sex at the office, but I knew that just turned her on more.We broke that particular rule at least once a week, sometimes in my office, sometimes in hers.I was still splitting my time between my own company and GalvaTech and, I had to say, I loved the convenience of having Morgan right next door.

“Sounds like a lucky woman,” she managed.

“Trust me, I’m the lucky one.”

We continued the flirty banter as we finished our drinks, falling back into the rhythm of that first night. The chemistry that had sparked between us immediately was still alive and well. The way conversation flowed so easily despite the heat and awareness simmering underneath.

“So, what brings you out tonight?”I asked, placing my empty glass on the bar.“Any special occasion?”
