“Let me get my shirt, and I’ll—” I slammed the door shut.

I hopped on one foot out into the snow while I put my other boot on and didn’t bother zipping the clasp up. Quickly, I walked over the property line and up my driveway until I saw Logan’s vehicle. The car was running, and I smelled the gas fumes as I got closer. I saw my ex peering down at his cell phone and typing into the small keyboard on his device. His distraction allowed me to get closer until he must’ve heard the crunch of the snow.

Logan glanced up. “Elle? Where the hell have you been? You didn’t respond to my text.”

“I’m sorry.” I laughed nervously and ran my fingers through the tangles of my hair. “I was out for a morning stroll.”

Christ. I was a damn mess. I had foul breath, but Jack hadn’t spoken a word of it because he was too busy staring at my tits.

“Wearing that?” Logan asked, with wrinkles of concern creasing his forehead. “It’s freezing out here, beautiful. Where’s your coat?”

Shit!Damage control. Divert.Divert!

I glared at him. “You don’t get to call me beautiful, you goddamn—”

“Mommy!” I jumped and spun around toward Jack’s house to find Faith running toward me. “You went to Mr. Timber’s place without me?”

My cheeks were burning hot, and I kept my back to Logan. I hugged my daughter and wished for my ex to disappear, but he tapped my shoulder.Fuck.

I spun back around. “I had to make a stop at Mr. Timber’s house because Chip got out.”

“Who is Chip?” Logan questioned.

“Mr. Timber’s dog.” Faith smiled.

“Really?” Logan took one step toward me and tucked hair behind my ear. “Mommy’s pretty flushed for letting the neighbor’s pet in.”

Crap.Logan doesn’t believe me. He was always damn nosy. Maybe he should live next to me instead of Jack, but what a fucking nightmare that would be—pure hell on earth, resembling his touch that made me want to flee.

“I had to go after Chip...” I sidestepped away and pointed down the street. “He was running down the street.”

“Oh, my gosh, Mommy...” Faith covered her mouth in concern. “It’s a good thing you got to Chip in time. Mr. Timber loves him.”

“I bet he does, but I think I know what else Mr. Timber loves.” Logan roamed his eyes up and down my body.

No matter how much I tried to hide it, I blushed brighter. I bet I was as red as a tomato, and I hated how I couldn’t contain the affection I had for Jack. Especially since Logan was on to me.

“What?” Faith scrunched up her cute nose in curiosity as she stared up at her father and awaited an answer.

I placed my hands on my daughter’s back. “Faith. Why don’t you head inside, and Mommy will be right behind you?”

Logan stopped Faith. “No, sweetheart. You go wait in my car because Mommy will come with us.”

“Cool!” Faith sprinted for the driveway.

I heard the car door slam shut, but I couldn’t take my eyes off Logan’s displeased face. His upper lip twitched at the corners, and he clenched his fists at his sides. My ex was pissed, but I was too.

“How dare you insist I’m leaving anywhere with you?” I glared at Logan.

“You think I’m gonna leave you here withhim?” Logan shot back and grabbed my wrist. “You’re coming with your family.”

“No.” I yanked my hand away. “I’m going to get my daughter.”

I stepped toward the car, but Logan blocked my way with flared nostrils. “No fucking way am I leaving you tofuckthe old guy next door. You belong with me, Noelle.”

“That’s none of your goddamn business.” I sidestepped again, but he created a barrier with his body. “Get out of my way, Logan.”

“Christ! It’s true, isn’t it? You’re screwing him?” Logan ran his hands through his hair. “I fucking knew it.”
