“Fuck you,” Bash shot back, reaching for the phone.
“Damian, get home now,” Luca hissed. “The three of us need to talk. You clearly don’t know how to fucking listen.”
He didn’t acknowledge Alex before hanging up.
Alex huffed. “What was that about?”
There was no point in explaining Luca’s complexities, so I took the phone from her and shrugged. “I don’t know, Pet. But I gotta go.”
She didn’t protest when I grabbed her hand and led her across the street. I walked her up to the second floor and stopped in front of the apartment she shares with Aiden.
Alex hesitated, looking at me as she touched the handle. “When will I see you again?”
“I don’t know.”
“Luca is mad at you and Bash, isn’t he?”
I nodded to confirm.
“Is he the reason you don’t talk to me?”
Another nod.
“I hate him.”
Sometimes, I did too.
But I couldn’t tell her that.
I was a Salvatore and had to maintain a united front with my brothers. Our father instilled that in us from a young age.
Alex stood on her tiptoes and kissed my cheek. “Bye, Damian.”
I kissed her head, getting a good whiff of her shampoo, and attempted to memorize her scent as I dug my fingers into her thick ass. “Bye, Pet.”
CHAPTER 26
DAMIAN
One year later
I was sick of waiting. Tired of not having my girl and Bash. The need to consume them was stronger than my desire to kill. It had been seeping into my skin, clawing at my insides, and making my black heart even blacker.
I needed them.
After the night I almost fucked Alex, I got into a fistfight with Luca over it. Bastian jumped in to protect me, even though I didn’t need his help. We all walked away with cuts and bruises. And the next day, we agreed we couldn’t allow a woman to separate us.
So I didn’t see Alex again.
I kept my distance when I went to Providence to check on her. A few times, I caught men sniffing around by her apartment and introduced them to my hunting knife.
Bash was with me this time.
We got a tip that some Russian scumbag was searching for the heirs to the Wellington fortune. So far, only residents had entered or exited her building.
“Time for a break.” Bastian pushed off the brick wall. “I’m starving. Call Marcello and ask him to take over while we eat.”
Marcello assisted with Alex’s surveillance since he opted out of college. He stayed in Devil’s Creek to help our father run Alpha Command, a team of mercenaries who worked for Salvatore Global off the books.
