“Okay. Great.” LA leaned in to kiss Cass again.

Cass gently pushed LA back. “Wait. Please.”

“What is it?” LA scowled.

“It is because I like you so much that I do not wish to rush this,” Cass said firmly. “You’ve only just ended your relationshipwith Gavin, and we still have a lot of work to do rebuilding your strength—”

“I don’t care. Iwantyou. I want something good and fucking nice for once in my life and—”

Cass kissed him firmly. “And you will, but not yet.”

“What the fuck do you meannot yet?” LA clung to Cass’s shoulders. “What the hell are you waiting for?”

“To make sure that your intentions are genuine and you’re not simply rebounding,” Cass replied smoothly. “If I took you to bed and rocked your little human world for hours on end, can you actually say that you’d still want me tomorrow? The day after that? Would this really be the start of something meaningful and emotionally fulfilling? Or would this only be a means to an end to satisfy your loneliness and pain?”

“I’m still stuck onrocking my human world for hours on end—”

“Elly.”

“Sorry!”

Cass sighed, nuzzling the top of LA’s head. “We’ve only just met, and I do not want this to interfere with my true purpose here.”

“And bythis, you mean wanting to rock my human world for hours on end.”

“Elly, please.” Cass pouted.

“You’re the one who said hours—” LA gasped as Cass pinned him against the counter, his big paws boxing him in. He stared stupidly up at Cass, his heart racing, and he scrambled to brace himself on Cass’s chest.

“Behave,” Cass warned, his voice carrying a deep growl. “I am trying to have a serious conversation with you.”

“Uh-huh.” LA nodded. “Holy fuck. Yup.”

“What?”

“That was hot.”

Cass blinked. “What was?”

“The whole pushing me against the counter and using your Daddy voice.”

Cass let out a very un-Daddy-like squeak and then argued, “I only wanted you to pay attention!”

“You’ve definitely got my attention. And my erection.”

“Oh my God.”

LA chuckled and rubbed Cass’s chest. “Okay, but seriously. Yeah, you’re right. It’s fast. All of this is. Think I took the whole finding out monsters are real pretty well, but liking one is, uh…”

“Perhaps a bit of a surprise?”

“A bit, yeah.” LA snorted. “But I do. Like you.” He adjusted his feet, trying to get comfortable. “Enough that I don’t want you to think this is any kind of a rebound thing or any of that, okay?”

Cass frowned as he watched LA squirm. “Are you all right?”

“What? Fine. Just my back.”

“Would sitting be more comfortable?”
