menu and all the ideas he had, which ones Rees liked, which ones he didn’t. He was getting nervous
the closer they got to the apartment.
Snod couldn’t wait. He had to ask Frankie to turn him as soon as possible.
Frankie knew something was up like always, turning to face Snod the second the door closed behind
him and asking bluntly, “Now, do you wanna tell me what’s really on your mind? I know it’s not
freaking out about whether or not Rees hates truffle oil.”
Snod took Frankie’s hands in his, smiling shyly as he replied, “No, it’s not.”
Frankie pressed close, asking again, “What is it, Obe?”
“I love you,” Snod said slowly. “I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You have
taught me so much, and I never thought I would be able to have this. To be happy, to be free... I don’t
want to lose it.”
“Obe,” Frankie murmured passionately, “you’re not going to lose me. I told you forever, and I meant
it.”
Snod’s hopes skyrocketed, saying eagerly, “Then you’ll do it.”
“Do what?”
“Turn me,” Snod breathed.
Frankie’s eyes widened and his side of the bond closed off immediately. He pulled his hands away,
saying, “Obe, I can’t do that.”
“Yes, you can,” Snod insisted. “I’m asking you to. It’s the only way we can be together forever.”
“I’m so close to finding a cure,” Frankie retorted. “It would be pointless to turn you.”
Snod frowned, surprisingly angry at Frankie’s refusal, scoffing, “How close? How many years have
you been searching for one?”
Frankie narrowed his eyes, his voice cold as he replied, “Obe. You don’t know what you’re asking of
me. I won’t do it.”
“How many more years is it going to take, Frankie?” Snod demanded passionately. “Five? Ten? How
old will I be by the time you finally become human? Will I even be alive?”
“What is this about, Obe?” Frankie snapped. “Is this because of Mark?”
“No,” Snod snarled, “it’s not!”
“Obe, you don’t have anything to worry about,” Frankie insisted. “I’m with you. You’re the only one
that I want. I love you.”
