His eyes flew open.
“I’ve known for a while now. I don’t want to waste any more time without telling you.”
He pecked my lips, his lips resting on mine like they’d always been there.
I tried to sit up, and he stood up, his eyes cautious as he asked, “Are you sure you can? You don’t have to. Should I call the doctor?”
“Yes, I can,” I replied, chuckling as I sat up. He helped me shift sideways so my back was against the wall. “And the doctor just left now. She’ll be back to see how I’m doing.”
“Oh…?”
“Please, can I have water?” I asked, looking around the room.
“Sure,” he answered, walking over to the table and breaking a bottle of water open before pouring it into a glass.
I saw the hesitation in his eyes as he handed the glass of water. He clearly had no problem with holding it for me.
“Thanks,” I uttered, giving him the half-empty glass.
The bed gave a low squeak as he came back to sit at the edge, taking my hands in his.
This is the time to tell him.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked, raising a brow.
“What makes you think I’m not just admiring you?” I asked back, stalling and bracing myself to share the news.
“I just know,” he answered, shrugging.
I sighed.
“Okay, you’re right,” I revealed. “When I woke up, the doctor was here…”
He nodded earnestly, and I found myself swallowing.
“She said the tests showed that…that I’m pregnant.”
There was no movement, no sound, from either of us in that second.
Viktor blinked, his steady gaze on me.
“Are you joking?” he asked, his voice low.
Maybe I should have waited.
I shook my head.
His eyebrows spread apart as he flashed me a grin. He pressed my upper body into his in a rush.
“We’re going to have a baby?!”
“Yes,” I whispered, nodding against his chest.
“I’m the fucking luckiest man on earth. Not only do I have an angel as a wife, but now I’ll have a child. I’ll be a father!” he rushed, holding me tight.
I blinked rapidly back the tears of relief.
He released me and brought his hand to my stomach, his eyes on mine as he spoke.
