His touch, his love, it somehow eases the ache better than anything else could.
Slowly, Colt pulls back from the kiss, brushing his nose lightly against mine, both of us breathing hard. “I can’t believe you made me do that,” he says, voice rough, a little defeated even.
I smile softly through the lingering haze of pleasure and reach up, cradling his jaw between my hands, forcing him to meet my eyes. “You didn’t hurt me. I’m fine. Actually, I’m perfect,” I tell him quickly.
Colt shakes his head, frowning hard. “Why don’t I believe you?”
Dammit! Cover officially blown.
Maybe my moans weren’t as convincing as I thought.
“I don’t know. Why don’t you believe me?” I try, my voice light, but he’s not buying it.
“Probably because you tried to muffle your pained moans.” He sighs, frustrated. “I hope you enjoyed that, Dee, because it’s the last time I’m touching you. And this time, I mean it.” He shifts, his whole body tense with anger and concern. “Any sexual activity is now officially out of bounds until we get the all-clear from your doctor. And even then,” he adds darkly. “I might not touch you for a while to punish you for this little stunt.”
His voice softens, but it’s thick with emotion. “I love you. But I. Will.Not. Hurt. You. Again. No matter what kind of cunning plan you come up with.” He presses a kiss to my forehead—gentle, heartbreaking—and rolls onto his side, turning his back to me.
I bite my bottom lip, guilt gnawing at me.
Maybe that wasn’t the most brilliant idea after all.
Now Colt’s pissed, and it’s all my fault.
I make myself comfortable under the covers. Even though it’s way more comfortable to lie on my back because of the cast, I decide I need to let Colt know I’m sorry. So I shift carefully onto my side, facing him, and wrap my arm around his waist, pressing my front to his back.
I kiss his shoulder gently.
His hand finds mine and pulls it to his chest, entwining our fingers over his heart.
I sigh in relief before whispering, “Are you really mad at me?”
He shakes his head. “No, baby. I’m mad at myself.”
“I’m sorry I made you do that,” I murmur. “Once again, I was only thinking about myself. It’s just… I miss you. I miss feeling you.”
Colt shifts, turning to face me.
The look in his eyes guts me.
“I know,” he says roughly. “You have no idea how much I want to make love to you, Dee. I ache for you. I burn for you. But the last thing I ever want to do is hurt you, and I keep doing it.” He glances away like he can’t stand to see the guilt on my face.
“Colt, you’re an amazing fiancé. The best,” I say firmly. “You’ve put up with so much from me, and honestly, I can’t even imagine how horrible it was for you after the accident. I know I haven’t been the nicest person to be around, and I know I’ve been miserable. But today changed all that. Knowing wecanhave a family, that Anna is helping us… I couldn’t be happier. And I’m so fucking glad it’s you by my side through all of it. I wouldn’t want anyone else.Ever.”
He pulls back just a little, smirking, and I raise an eyebrow, confused.
“You know what hearing you swear does to me,” he says, smirk widening. “It makes me hard as hell.”
Before I can say anything, he leans in and kisses me softly, and I giggle against his lips.
“I only started swearing when I met you, you know.”
“Yeah, I know. And I fucking love it,” he murmurs, kissing me again, softer this time, before pulling me close.
He cuddles me against his chest, and just like he does every night, he starts to hum, the sound low and soothing, helping me drift off to sleep.
