We have five days remaining until Christmas.

Shoppers spend billions this time of year, but you can’t put a price on true romance.

We thought Cobbiton’s latest love story might result in a tale of a frosty face-off, but it looks to be going strong with long snowy walks, nose nuzzles over the marshmallow bowl, and secrets kept locked tight behind closed doors. But they’d better watch out because, just like the song goes, Santa sees everything, including skating on the pond and custom embroidered stockings from the stall at the market.

They don’t need five golden rings, only one—or three, depending on how you’re counting. Will this Christmas couple wake up on December twenty-fifth with coal in their stockings or a pleasant surprise?

Monday Minute: Okay, I know my usual update is a day early, or five hours if you want me to be specific and I will be because apparently someone is watching and it isn’t Santa. I’ve been doing some digging to find out who’s behind the Cobbiton Daily Caller with our Christmas Countdown Corner takeover. I’ve ruled out a few possibilities, but I need your help. If you’d like to uncover this caper, meet me at Once Upon a Romance tomorrow morning at ten sharp.

Speaking of meetings, the Happy Hockey Days planningcommittee has things underway for the event next month. If you’d like to contribute to making our first annual festival a success, please message me privately. We’re looking for anyone with unique and special skills that will help us get the word out to fans of hockey fun outside of Cobbiton.

MelissaGriffinWallace: What did I miss?

BarrySmeltz: Reading my novel, obviously. It’s the perfect Christmas gift. I wrote a book called Attack of the Voalcan Army and it’s available now!

LeahSmithRoboveitchek: I’ve tried to show the spirit of the season,BarrySmeltz, but you can’t keep posting about your book. Not even in the comments. This is your last chance. If you’d like to participate, leave out the part about the Attack of the Voalcan Army.

WhitneyReddford: You’re a kinder and far more patient woman than I,LeahSmithRoboveitchek.

CaraArsenaultBadaszek: Yet she’s leading the charge against whoever took over the Cobbiton Daily Caller Christmas Countdown Corner takeover.

EllaBouchelle: Someone has to. It’s getting weirdly personal. I’ll be there tomorrow.

JessicaEllis: The articles are getting a little intense. I’ll be there too and I’ll bring fortification.

TaylorTipton: Please tell me you’re bringing a Bundt.

MelissaGriffinWallace: Vince wants me to tell you that he has it on good authority that the culprit is not who you think.

MarshaSimmons: As a concerned citizen, I think it’s my duty to help. I see thatJessicaEllisis bringing food to the meeting, but I’ll be on standby with my apron on.

CHAPTER 22

BREE

“This scene needs more punchlines,”Nina says, frowning at our script pages for the ‘Encorn’ skits. We’re huddled at a corner table in the Busy Bee, surrounded by half-empty coffee mugs, crumpled sticky notes, and a plate that previously held honey butter Linzer cookies.

I tap my pen against my notebook, trying to focus.

Fletch is at practice. He’s only been gone an hour and I already find myself wondering when he’ll be back. Checking my phone for texts. Missing the sound of his ever-present laughter.

This is dangerous territory. Missing someone after an hour apart isn’t research. It is something else entirely.
