“There’s no fucking way Bailey is going home. Not with that psycho on the loose.”

“If she goes home with you, she’s not gonna be any safer,” he argued. “How the hell are you gonna protect her with one fucking arm?”

“I can still shoot.”

“Yeah, loaded up on pain pills. And before you say anything about not taking them, you know that won’t fly with Bailey.”

“Dammit!” I shouted, hating that I was so damn immobile.

“Just tell her what’s going on. She’s a big girl. She can take it.”

“Not yet. She works with Wyatt. We can’t let it slip that we know what’s going on. Not until we have proof.”

“Even if we?—”

“Just do it, Jeff?—”

The door swung open, and Bailey hurried in with the nurse behind her. With the tension in the room, she instantly froze.

“What? What did I miss?”

“Just my brother being his usual charming self,” Jeff grinned.

“He was just in an accident. I think you can handle his temper for the next few hours.”

“Years, you mean,” Jeff muttered as he headed for the door. “I gotta make a call.”

Bailey rolled her eyes and walked over to me, sitting on the edge of the bed. “So, good news, as long as you’re a good boy, they’ll let you out in the morning. That’s assuming you don’t break anything else or piss off the staff.”

“I’m always very nice.”

The nurse coughed out a laugh as she typed on the computer. “Alright. The doctor said we can give you another dose of pain meds, so?—”

“No pain meds.”

I knew I was going to get flak for my answer, but I hadn’t expected this level of anger from Bailey. “Are you freaking kidding me? You were just pancaked in my car. You can bet your ass you’re gonna get pain meds, and you’re gonna like it. You’re staying in this bed tonight, and I’m going to make sure you do.”

“Actually, visiting hours end at?—”

Bailey cut a sharp glare at the nurse, who instantly backed off.

After the nurse finished filling me with mind-numbing drugs, she scurried out of the room, shooting Bailey a death glare on the way.

“She’ll probably try to kill me in my sleep now,” I muttered.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be here all night, making sure they do exactly what they’re supposed to.”

That was exactly what I was worried about. If Austin really was responsible for the accident, that meant Bailey was in constant danger.

I had to figure out how to eliminate either him or the threat.

I shovedthe front door open, ignoring how Bailey was yelling at me as she ran up the drive, hauling my meds and every other fucking supply she could think of.

“Liam Michael Parker, I told you to wait for me!”

I kicked the door wider, my eyes instantly scanning for any threats. Before she could get in here, I wanted to clap eyes on every inch of this place, but with her tenacity, that wasn’t going to be possible.

Did you check the outside?
