And since all she wanted was someone who understood her and what her life was like, she couldn’t argue that.

“There is one,” she said, giving him another light peck on the cheek.

They finished their dinner and the check came. She put her hand out to reach for it and his eyes grew wide, then narrowed a touch.

They’d talked about this already, but since it was a place that he came to often, it might poke at his ego if someone saw her paying for their meal.

She put her hand down and he whispered, “Thank you.”

At least he understood why she gave in.

That made her not doubt her decision to move as much.

HAPPENED FAST

Rowan thought for sure they were going to have a tug of war over the damn check.

It was the last thing he needed when there were at least ten people in there that knew him and had been watching during his dinner with Saylor.

He knew arriving with her would put it out there fast enough that he was taken. He’d never been one to publicly make announcements.

But he sure the hell didn’t think four of his friends would come over and put him on the spot about Saylor being different from who he normally dated.

Women who surfed with them all the time. That’s who he was around the most, it seemed, in his free time. And you picked from groupings of those that had the same interests.

It hadn’t worked for him yet.

Not like things with Saylor.

“Did you like the walk down?” he asked.

“I did. Do you do it often?”

“Yes. Sometimes we just surf down, then put our boards against the wall out there, and come in to eat.”

“I saw that. I wondered about it.”

“That happens a lot here. It’s an informal area.”

“I like what I see so far,” she said.

Her eyes were on him while he drove them back. He pulled his Audi A8 into the garage. Maybe it was pretentious, but he liked what he liked and it was one thing he was splurging on.

He kept his Jeep for transporting his boards when necessary. Which, of course meant that Saylor had her SUV in the driveway. He was going to move his Jeep to the side out of the way so she could be in the garage. He’d do that tomorrow when she was gone for work.

“I love what I see,” he said.

There was a double meaning there, but she wouldn’t catch on.

He wasn’t joking when he told Logan that Saylor was going to be his wife.

It’d happened fast with all his siblings and it was for him too.

He’d do anything to make her see and feel what he did, but he couldn’t pressure her to do the same.

“Tomorrow is going to be the first time we’ll be getting ready for work together.”
