Dreaux kept asking me what I wanted my future to look like, but I couldn’t give him a solid answer. I stopped dreaming a long time ago, and I wasn’t sure what my purpose was. The only things I loved to do were write songs and poetry, but those were hobbies.
My thoughts were interrupted when someone barged through the office doors without knocking. With Maliah and Dreaux being out of the office, I wasn’t expecting anyone tocome by. The lady in front of me didn’t seem like she was a tenant, but she glared at me with a look of disgust.
“Welcome to Davis Apartments. How can I help?” I bit my tongue to keep from saying what was truly on my mind because I wasn’t trying to jeopardize my job.
“I need to see Dreaux.”
“Do you have an appoi?—”
“I don’t need an appointment. When I call, he stops everything for me,” she snarled.
“Okay. He’s out of the office for the day. Have you tried calling his personal line?” Her demeanor struck me as odd, and it made me uncomfortable. It almost made me grateful there were cameras throughout the building, both inside and out. She was dressed in an all-black tailored suit, but her hair looked as if she had just gotten into a fight, and her eyes were cold and reddened. Based on the designer labels, I assumed she must be someone of importance, but I had no idea who she was.
“Of course, I’ve called his personal line. As I said, we have a very close relationship.”
“Well, I’m sorry you’re having issues getting in touch with him. If you would like, I can take your name and number and send him an email to let him know you stopped by.” My patience grew thin, and I needed her ass out of my face as soon as possible.
“Listen here, you little bitch. I’m not the kind of person you want to play games with. Dreaux knows the importance of keeping me happy, so I’m not worried about anything getting in my way.”
Her cryptic warning left me feeling more confused than ever because I had no idea what her issue was or what she was talking about. I tried to remain professional, but all bets were off when she called me out of my name.
“Look, ma’am. I don’t know who you are or why you brought your ass to a place of business with your weird ass energy. I told you Mr. Davis wasn’t here and offered you the solutions I have to get in contact with him. This is a place of business, so whatever personal issues you have with him, they have no place here. You must not be as important to him as you think; otherwise, you wouldn’t be in here looking like a disheveled junkie looking for a fix. The man is fine as hell, but if he’s got you embarrassing yourself like this, you might want to rethink some things. You can’t put a price on dignity.”
“You think you’re so funny, but I always get the last laugh. If I were you, I would take my warnings very seriously. You seem like a young lady with your whole life ahead of you. It would be a shame if it were cut short because you stepped on the wrong toes.”
“I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, but it sounds to me like you skipped your meds today. I hope you enjoyed this little moment as much as I did. I’ll be sure to have Mr. Davis send you a copy of this interaction from the surveillance cameras.” I pointed to the big ass television mounted behind her. “No dick is good enough for you to end up in the county jail. Plus, I’m sure they don’t have stilettos in there. Now, please get the fuck out of here and don’t come back. Crazy bitch.”
“Don’t be a fool. I’m warning you.”
One of the security guards entered the office after I pressed the button at the bottom of my desk to signal an issue. Dreaux made sure to put precautions in place because his team was made up mainly of women.
“I don’t give a fuck about you and your threats. At this point, I’m about to call him and fuck just because. Security is here to make sure you leave the premises, but I had no choice but to call the police. Now, you can either leave peacefully or be escorted in handcuffs. It makes no difference to me.”
“It’s time for you to go, ma’am. We don’t want to have to use excessive force, but we will do what’s necessary,” Tony warned.
“If you put your hands on me, you will regret it. I’m going to go, but I’ve made my stance clear,” she said her peace and walked out with Tony trailing behind her. A part of me was stunned by what took place, so it took me a while to move. When Tony re-entered the office, he assured me that she was gone and promised to keep an eye out in case she returned.
I sent Dreaux a text to let him know about our little visitor, and I saw the bubbles pop up right away.
Me: One of your bitches came by the office looking for you. She seemed upset, so you might want to call her back before she ends up in jail!
Dreaux: What did she look like? And I don’t have any bitches.
Me: You ain’t gotta lie. She kind of looked like a Spanish version of Vanessa Williams.
Dreaux: I’m about to text Tony. Clock out and go home.
Me: What kind of dick are you giving these hoes? If it’s gonna have me threatening strangers, you can keep it.
It took him a while to respond, so I figured he was ignoring me. Tony came back and waited as I shut my computer down and gathered my belongings. He escorted me to my place, and I knew Dreaux had something to do with it.
When I made it inside, I got undressed and poured myself a glass of wine. I picked up my phone to text the group chat aboutwhat happened and noticed Dreaux texted me back. I snickered when I read his response.
Dreaux: You got me fucked up if you think you’re not gonna give me that pussy.
Dreaux: Don’t worry, though. I won’t fuck you until I handle my business. When it’s the right time, I want to give you all my attention.
I reread the message multiple times, trying to keep a smile on my face. Based on today’s interaction, I probably should have been running for the hills, but I wanted to see where things would go. The ladies wanted me to give them the rundown on FaceTime. Since Ciyani and Yaya were still at work, I decided to take a shower and get dinner started before I filled them in on what happened.
