An orgasm is growing within me. Tightening my belly and my balls. I’m astonished that it is possible after last night. I would have thought I’d be spent for at least a week. But it seems my pleasure knows no bounds.

I bounce and chase my peak. And all of a sudden, I find it. Elation crashes over. Pleasure surges. Ecstasy swirls.

I cry out. My body jerks, and my seed spills into the water.

Selwyn grunts. His hot cock throbs and pulses against mine. His seed joins mine in clouding the water.

I fall still. My lungs are the only thing that are moving. Aftershocks of joy are sparking all over my body.

My head drops forward. I watch the water slowly turn clear again.

“That was unexpected,” says Selwyn.

My head snaps up. He is grinning broadly. Delight sparkling in his rich brown eyes.

I swallow. Oh. He didn’t mean to seduce me? He brought me to the bath with innocent intentions, and this debauchery was all me?

My lips twitch. I give up fighting it. I grin back at him. He seems so happy, I’m not going to waste time being ashamed.

The rise and fall of his chest pauses and his eyes widen.

“You are always beautiful, Laurie,” he says. “But when you give me a smile, it steals my breath away.”

My lungs stutter. My head spins. My cheeks burn. Oh my, I never knew compliments could affect me physically like this.

Selwyn chuckles warmly. He moves and steers me out of the bath. His gentle hands steadying me as I make my way up the shallow steps.

We stand naked and dripping on the tiled floor of the bathroom. But it is perfectly warm in here. And it is stupid to be shy when he has seen every part of me up close. He has even had his tongue on or in most places.

He takes a soft towel and carefully dries my hair. Then he turns me away from him, and his fingers go to my hair. He redoes my marriage braid.

Then he gives me another smaller one that twists by the nape of my neck. I do not know what it means.

But I know it is something good.

The future really is looking bright. Even though that is quite possibly a naïve thought. Plots and princes and alliances with world-conquering beings, can never be plain sailing. But despite everything, there is a light shining on the far side of the storm, and now I can finally see it.

Chapter twenty-two

This pile of letters is not getting any smaller. It is a wonder that it hasn’t toppled over. I’ve been writing for hours, long enough that my hand is cramping, and I haven’t made a dent in it at all.

It is strange to think there are so many eyes on me. My wedding was in the news. It is being talked about in the press. So many people have their opinions. And so many have sent me well wishes.

I imagine there was hate mail too, but thankfully that has been filtered out. As have the gifts that many people are referencing. It is just like Mother to take the gifts and leave me the task of writing the thank-you letters. At least, I’m assuming it was her.

I sigh and lean back in my chair. Rolling my shoulders eases some of the stiffness, but my back remains stubbornly sore.

The pile of letters smirks at me. More promises, pleas and general ass-licking. Mother was right. Marrying one of the new rulers of Earth was the key to unlocking immense status and power.

It’s a shame I don’t care about any of it. Mother’s genes gave me neither her magic nor her ambition.

My only dreams are to spend my days drawing, or in nature, and my nights cuddled up to someone kind.

My stomach swoops. Vivid memories of Selwyn carrying me to the bath and washing my hair, burst into vibrant life. I firmly shut them down before they drift onto what happened next. I do not need to be sitting here thinking dirty thoughts.

But thinking about the care he showed me is nice. I think the ‘having a kind person’ part of my dreams might be coming true.

A blush heats my cheeks, but then a sound derails my thoughts. The sound of scrabbling paws on floorboards. I twist in my chair just in time to see Selwyn walk into the room with a very excited large puppy at his heels.
