“Gray is a sex demon,” I say carefully. “It is his sustenance. He is always going to feel differently about sex than someone else might.”
The grip on my ankle lessens slightly. Perhaps he will listen to me.
I really don’t want to blast him with magic. He means well. And in his own way, he is just as damaged as Gray. But I’m not so altruistic that I’m going to let him drown me. So I cannot let him pull me down. Once I’m under the water, in his realm, I’m done for.
A shadow blurs past me, followed by a splash. The hand on my ankle disappears. The pool erupts into thrashing foam. Shit!
I jump into the water. Fuck is it cold. The water is so churned I cannot see a thing. I’m going to have to reach out blindly and try to pull two fighting paranormal creatures apart. Fuck my life.
My arm wraps around a familiar slender waist. It’s Gray. I have him. With all my strength, I pull him off of Blue. Someone else jumps into the water and grabs the siren. Thank fuck.
I swim up to the surface because unlike these little shits, I need to breathe. I gasp as I breach the surface and shake the water out of my eyes. My arms are full of wet, naked, wriggling and angry demon.
“Gray stop! He was threatening me because he was worried about you!” I growl.
Gray freezes in my arms. As if I have slapped him. Then he slumps, defeated.
I look over at the siren. The kelpie is holding him. Blue’s nose is bleeding and he is glaring at Gray.
Is Gray hurt? My heart hammers. My magic runs quickly over him. I can’t find any injuries. My relief huffs out in a sigh.
I look up. It seems everyone has gathered around the pool. Nothing like a bit of drama to bring people together.
“Is he okay?” I ask Lello. I really hope a nosebleed is the worst of it.
Lello nods.
“Sorry,” rasps Gray.
The siren angrily shrugs out of Lello’s grip and dives under the water. The kelpie shoots Gray a dark look and then dives after his friend.
“What the fuck is going on?” asks Carter.
I suppose as Lello is clearly involved now, as the kelpie’s mate he has a right to know.
“I took Gray to a sex club to feed him. When we got back, Blue sensed it and was pissed about it. He assumed it wasn’t consensual. He summoned me here and was threatening me, which alarmed Gray.”
Carter’s eyes widen, and he nods his understanding.
Gray shudders. His shoulders heave. His anguished wail breaks my heart.
“Sorry!” he sobs.
I turn him around to face me. His dark hair is plastered to his head. His tears are mingling with the water still streaming downhis face. His dark eyes are full of sorrow and regret. He has never looked more beautiful.
“Hey, it was a misunderstanding. An easy one to make.” I give him a smile. “Thank you for coming to my rescue.”
He sobs again, but gives me a slight nod.
“Why don’t you swim down and apologize to your friend?” I suggest.
Worry and doubt flash across his gorgeous eyes. But he nods, moves back from me and disappears under the water.
He shouldn’t be so hard on himself. Blue only has a bloody nose, which means my little demon kept tight control. If he had truly lost his shit, none of us would be standing here.
Carter offers me his hand. I take it and climb out of the pool. I shake myself like a dog. The pretty omega, Red, gives me a towel and I wrap it over my shoulders gratefully.
“Do you think they are okay down there?” he asks before biting his bottom lip.
