I'm supposed to be helping him organize his life. I feel so awfulfor not doing my job.
I quickly replaced this guilt with determination. My time in this house isn't over yet. I still have a chance to turn things around, but I know it's not the sort of thing I can do on my own all at once.
I will need a lot of help, but thankfully, I have a house filled with people who are more than willing to help their alpha.
The twins are the first people I see when I go downstairs. They walk in through the main door with bags that look filled with supplies. “Howdy, Leena,” Raph says.
“Hey, guys. What do you have there?” I ask.
“Some cleaning stuff,” Ramona responds. “Jackson is doing some repairs in one of the rooms downstairs. It's basically a renovation, so there's a lot to do.”
“Oh, cool. Say, do you think you could help me out with stuff I could use upstairs? I'm thinking about cleaning Grant's office.”
“Yeah, for sure,” Ramona says. “We'll come find you soon. Let's just go check on Jackson first.”
I clap both hands together, smiling. “You two are amazing. Thank you.”
Both siblings smile at me before leaving. I turn my attention to the kitchen, a place in the house that I'm now pretty familiar with.
Molly is at the sink when I walk in. “Good morning, Leena,” she says without turning around to see who it is. “You're up pretty early today.”
“Yup. I've sort of been slacking on the job, so I'm hoping I can make amendsfor that.”
“What do you mean?” she asks, finally turning around. Molly grabs a kitchen towel and uses it to wipe her hands dry.
I look away, slightly embarrassed. “I'm supposed to be taking care of Grant, but it's been the other way around since I got here.”
Molly chuckles heartily. “It's Grant we're talking about. It's very difficult to be the one taking care of the alpha, even if it's literally your job.”
Her words give me a little assurance that I'm not totally useless. I'm still determined to do all I can to assist Grant, though, and the best way to start is with food.
“Can you give me a list of meals that Grant likes to eat?” I ask. “I want to take note of stuff that can help with his appetite. The fact that he eats once a day and still manages to be active is crazy.”
My cheeks turn deep red after saying those words. The sort of activity I imagine Grant doing isn't the type that I should be talking about with Molly. Thankfully, the older woman is too deep in thought to realize that I'm red in the face.
“I could make a list and get that to you. I try to cook them, but getting him to eat is the problem.”
“Don't worry, I think I'll be able to sort that part out. I'll wait for the list, thank you.”
I make a move to leave, but Molly stops me. “It's nice to see an employee who actually cares about him,” she says. “When he mentioned he had a new assistant, I thought you'd be here, focused on your job andnothing else. I like the fact that you're worried about him and want to help.”
“Of course I am,” I respond. “Grant didn't have to help me, but he's choosing to. The least I could do is prove that I'm worth having around.”
“Iknowyou're worth having around,” she says with a smile. This warms my heart, and I leave the kitchen with a renewed fuzziness in my gut.
The twins catch me in the hallway and give me a few dust rags and a broom. “You said you wanted to clean the office,” Raph says as he gives me the cleaning tools. “We know there are a lot of important papers there, so it'll be best to just sort and do some dusting.”
“We'll help you,” Ramona states.
“No, I think I'd like to do this on my own,” I respond. “I want to make a habit out of it, and I'm not sure Grant will want so many people in his office.”
They share a look. “You're right,” Ramona concurs. “We're here, though, if you need anything.”
“Actually, there's something you can help me with,” I state. “I'm also going to clean his room. Can you get me the supplies for that? I want to deep clean and make it a more comfortable sleeping option than his office.”
“Great idea,” they chorus. “We’ll get you what you need,” Ramona promises.
I carry the broom and rags up to the office and get to work immediately. The first thing I do is sort out all the papers, neatly arranging them into the piles that they belong to.
