He nodded, as if making a decision, and stood. “Come, then, let’s get you to bed.” Extending a hand, he waited.
“I can do it myself. Where is everybody, anyway?”
Reaching down, he ignored my protest and hauled me easily to my feet, stretching past me to pull my covers loose. “They decided to give you some quiet and headed over to the big house for a movie.”
“Oh. They left you here?”
The curve of his mouth was tight. “I wasn’t in the mood, so I told Shiloh I’d stay to make sure you’d be okay.”
Shaking my head, I climbed into the bed, pushing my shoes off with my toes as I went. “Okay, well, I’m all tucked in, now. You can go.”
“I think I’ll stay for a while.” He watched me broodingly. “I’ll be in the other room if you need me.”
As he left the room, he clicked the light switch beside the door, casting the room into shadow. I stared up at the ceiling, feeling antsy and all kinds of discombobulated. “I won’t,” I replied softly to the quiet room.
