Chapter Fifteen
Gwen
I awakened alone in bed and stretched my senses out to see who was near. Ajax was in the outer chamber. My mouth watered. Hunger coursed through my veins.
I only truly hunger for those I’m close to. Ajax had grown dear to my heart. Such a wonderful, sweet giant of a man. So caring, so thoughtful.
Abbott lifted his rules about bringing someone to tears while Kieran was out of town. This meant I could truly enjoy Ajax, and I intended to do just that. I also intended to get out of the house later.
I stood, checked myself in the mirror, and then walked to the security console. Facial recognition combined with my palm print and an iris scan were necessary to disengage the lethal portions of our security. Powerful vampires can make themselves invisible in a mirror by affecting the rate we vibrate. We can also make ourselves appear blurry on film or digital image. Or, we can choose to be in focus. I had to be in focus for the facial recognition and iris scan to work.
I keyed in a passcode and offered my palmprint again to open the door, and I could finally motion Ajax inside.
I immediately scented Razor, Bash, and Duke on my werewolf. He’d sparred with the bikers earlier, and there’d beenenough physical contact, even his shower couldn’t get rid of their scent.
“Are you enjoying your time with Rolling Thunder?” I asked.
“I am.”
At first, I thought he intended me to see his thoughts, but then I realized he was so conflicted, he didn’t consider how his feelings would affect me. He didn’t realize how loudly he was broadcasting. His thoughts were all over the place because he couldn’t reconcile them. However, it was clear to me that, if he was whole, if he was in control of his wolf as a werewolf should be, then he’d want to join the bikers. He’d want to be one of them. He’d choose them over Kieran and me.
I carefully considered how to bring it up, and decided not to mention it. Not yet, anyway. It needed to be discussed, but I needed more information.
“I thought maybe we’d go out tonight. Do you play pool?”
He let me walk him into the bedroom without following me. “Spence showed me the basics, but I’m not very good.”
“We could see a movie, if you’d rather. I just want to get out of the house.”
“Is there something you want to see?”
“I have no idea. Let’s look through the trailers for everything showing at the theater with recliners. It’s close to TBC, so we can go there after the movie, if there’s something we wish to see.”
He was naked, and he stretched out on the bed to watch me take my robe off. “There’s a must-blow-shit-up-to-save-the-world-from-evil movie that looks promising. I’m not sure where it’s showing though.”
“Sounds interesting. It’s always a lot more fun to watch those battles than to participate in them.” I shrugged. “Though the memory of some battles is quite enjoyable, given the advantage of time to dull the painful parts.”
“How many times have you fought in those kinds of battles?”
“I’ve lost count. Sometimes, women aren’t allowed to fight. Most times, vampires do what we want, and fight for those we’ve given our obeisance to. Gender doesn’t usually matter.”
I snuggled into his embrace. I wasn’t ready for sex yet. I might not be ready for it until later. I was hungry, though. I wanted his blood.

Ajax
I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I went with it. Gwen fed from me. We cuddled and snuggled and talked. We went to a movie, and then she helped me get better at pool. We talked about the movie and how different it would be from an actual battle between good and evil.
I drove us around town a bit. She played classical music and we opened the sunroof. It was nice. Exhilarating.
And then we had sex in my bed, so she could hold me while I fell asleep. It was almost normal sex. Or, what I assume normal sex is like. I’ve never had sex with a human or another werewolf. Only with vampires.
Though, Abbott wanted me to find my own sexual partners outside of the threesome. I had no idea where to begin with that, but I needed to at least make an attempt. No way did I want to risk disobeying a direct order from the vampire master.
Those are the last thoughts I remember before my alarm went off, waking me the next morning. I looked through the cameras around the house, verified everything was as it should be, and texted Spence with a request to call me when he had a few moments. He called me while I was grilling steaks about twenty minutes later. I explained my dilemma, and he said he’d get back with me.
I assumed he’d talk to Abbott about it that evening and I’d have an answer the next day, but he phoned me thirty minuteslater and gave me an address. “Be there at one o’clock. Tell them your name. I’ve handled payment, but you’ll want to leave a tip. Thirty dollars if it’s an okay experience, sixty to eighty if it’s fantastic.”
