“You’re fucking kidding me,” Rafe said, shaking his head. “Who the fuck are your parents? How do the two of you have such crazy affinities?”
“I could ask you the same,” Zephyr snarked. “What do your parents do again, exactly?”
“My mother was the strongest Telepath on the continent, until Skye came along.” Rafe answered smoothly. “She drives people insane.”
My jaw dropped, becausewhat?
“I thought Telepaths were the ones supposed to go crazy,” Zephyr said, chuckling uneasily.
“Oh, yes, she’s also losing her mind.” Rafe said as if it were no big deal.
Zephyr and Skye shared a look.
“Rafe, don’t be a dick,” Wyatt said. “Her mental health struggles aren’t related to being a Telepath.”
“Agree to disagree, Wy.” Rafe sing-songed. “Anyway…where were we? Ah, yes. A visit to Shafer is in order. Rare affinates are being kidnapped for reasons we don’t yet understand. Zephyr can go incorporeal. Stevens is onto both of you…”
“Stevens isn’t onto shit,” Zephyr snarled. “Just because I had beef with the neighbor doesn’t mean I disappeared them.”
“And that was months ago,” Skye muttered.
“What happened, exactly?” I asked.
Zephyr groaned. “I offered to buy their apartment so we could expand and make more room for Levi. They said no, but the guy was a dick about it.”
“The wife had been talking to me about how she wanted to move, too.” Skye said. “It’s not as big of a deal as Stevens made it sound, but I’m wondering who told him that.”
“I don’t know,” Zephyr said. “We’re friendly with everyone else on the street.”
Skye yawned, and I pulled her to me. “We’re not going to solve this tonight. Let’s actually get to sleep.”
“Good idea,” Zephyr said with his own yawn. He checked his watch, then groaned. “Skye, can you–”
“Good idea, Aiden and I will open the café.” Skye said brightly, and I stifled a chuckle. He’d clearly been about to ask her to feed Levi.
Zephyr only nodded though. “Alright. Sounds good.” He pointed at Rafe and Wyatt. “You fucks better be gone when I get back up.”
Chapter 22
Wyatt
“This is stupid,”I muttered.
It was a stunning day, with temps in the mid-seventies. My skin prickled from the sudden warmth of the sun. It was overcast miles away on Skye’s island, where we’d been just moments before.
I squinted into the distance, hating how bright the morning sun was. I’d slept like shit, terrified Zephyr would come slit my throat or something equally as scary while I slept. Now that I knew he could fucking walk through walls, he more than scared me a little.
“You have any idea where he is?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at some of the trees around us. “This island doesn’t seem very inhabited.”
“No, it’s not. Wonderful observation skills, Craig.” Rafe snarked before striding away from me.
I rolled my eyes at his back before I followed. The asshole was still pissed at me about hiding my half-ass sensing ability.
Ability.Notaffinity. There was no way it was a full-fledged affinity. There wasno waythe testing center would have hidden that from my father.
Although…Shafer had hidden that Skye was a Telekinetic.
An eerie breeze rolled by, sending some of my hair into the air.
