“When he’s done, I’ll take you to dinner and then we can head home.”

“What if I don’t want to go home?”

“Then I’ll take you anywhere you want, but eventually we’ll end up at your place.”

“And then?”

“Then we’ll finish what we started.”

Hope bloomed inside me, and self-doubt evaporated. Want flooded my system as I took in the man before me.

Chapter Twenty-One

Beg For It

Morgan

Her guy, Johnny, fixed Elvira in record time as the entire office gawked from behind the glass doors.

I graciously let Race drive Elvira as we headed to dinner.

Once we’d arrived at the restaurant, conversation was almost nonexistent for the first half of the meal. After she’d consumed three glasses of wine, she started to talk.

“Thanks for letting me drive your girl,” she said, sloshing the wine in her glass around. “I really am sorry it happened because of me.”

“Don’t apologize any more,” I replied as I wiped my mouth and tossed my napkin on the table. “It’s in the past.”

“Kind of like I’ll be,” she whispered.

“What?” I asked, cocking my head.

“Nothing.” She watched the liquid as it moved around, and her eyes became glassy. “Can I drive her home?”

“Let’s get a few things clear. Shall we?” I asked, rubbing my hands against my pants. “I had a simple life. Then this blond-haired woman walked into my world with her attitude, sassy mouth, and killer body and wrecked everything.”

“Well, I—”

“Every time I look into her emerald-green eyes, I feel myself falling deeper, losing a bit of my heart with each kiss. I’ve never felt like this before. I don’t know how to act half the time. So don’t toss aside my feelings for you. When your case is over, I’m far from done with you, Race True.”

She sat there with her lips parted as she stroked her cleavage. “Okay.” A small smile crept across her face. “Can I have more wine?” she whispered.

“I want you fully lucid when I have you tonight. You’ll beg for more.”

“I’ve never begged, Morgan.”

“You will tonight.” I smirked.

Her throat moved as she swallowed hard and her lips parted wider. As her eyes softened, she uncrossed her arms and leaned forward.

“I don’t fucking beg,” she whispered.

I scooted forward in my chair, moving my face as close as possible to hers. Our mouths were almost touching as her warm, wine-laden breath trailed across my lips. “You will for me tonight. That I promise you.”

“Put up or shut up,” she said as the corner of her mouth twitched.

I grabbed my wallet, pulled out enough cash to more than cover the bill and tip, and stood. Holding my hand out, I stared down at her, ready to get out of there. “Let’s see if you’re all talk, princess.”

“You’re going to be the one walking funny tomorrow, big boy.”
