Cute, how he throws my earlier retort back at me.

“I told you, we worked out an agreement,” I remind him. “As long as he stays on his side of Mayhem, I’ll stay on mine.”

“Good, because you don’t want to go to war with him, Faith.”

“You’re right. I don’t.” I slap my hands on the table. “I came back to live my life, not obsess about his. Like, look at us. After your part in what Luke did to me, we’re getting along fine. See? We’re not enemies anymore. We’re friends again.” I motion to Havoc and Kerri. “All of us. Friends. Now, Kerri has to go because she has an hour’s drive ahead of her, and it’s getting late. But before we leave, you’re going to help me convince her to come back for a visit.”

I slide out of the booth and start collecting our trash. Kerri remains frozen to the seat. Yep, I railroaded her for all the right reasons. She can hate me now, but she’ll thank me later if all goes as I hope it will.

Discord sidles up next to me with a sexual swagger I can’t deal with today. “I’m going to enjoy being your friend.”

“Calm down, kid.” I hip check him. “I remember teasing you because you used to pick your scabs and eat them.”

Is he nuzzling me? Oh, Lord, he is, and it’s weird because it’s sexy as hell, and I don’t want it to be because I still see him as a child. “I like eating other things now.”

“Get your nose out of my hair.” I shove Discord away and turn to Havoc. “Help me encourage Kerri to come back.”

“Like Faith said,” Havoc snarls, “Brighton is only an hour away.”

Yep. Good job winning her over.

Kerri draws the strap of her pocketbook up her arm. “I’m aware of the distance.” Havoc extends a hand to her. By the way she stares at it, you’d think there was a smear of shit on his palm. But she accepts the offering and shimmies out of the booth. Once on her feet, Havoc steps back to give her room. “Thank you,” she mumbles.

“You’re welcome.”

“And they both lived happily ever after,” Discord singsongs.

Havoc’s nostrils flare, and his upper lip twitches. “How about you shut the fuck up?”

“How about you kiss my ass?” Discord takes Kerri’s hand and places a flirtatious kiss on her knuckles. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear he did it to aggravate his brother. “I hope to see you again, Kerri.”

Havoc grabs Discord by the shirt and yanks him away from her. “We’re leaving.” He turns to me. “Don’t burn my town down with your temper.”

“It’s my town, too.” I give him a megawatt grin. “And don’t worry, I won’t, but only if you promise to keep your friend on a leash.”

He ignores me and instead gives Kerri a long, hard—and indecipherable—stare. He doesn’t say a word to her. Not one word. Nor does she say anything to him. They simply…look…at each other.

I think, for people like them, this is considered foreplay.

Discord steps up to me, the demon, and places a hand on the small of my back. He pulls me against him and brushes his lips across my cheek, so close to my mouth he might as well full-on kiss me. “It was epic to see you again, Faith.”

Is it possible for a womb to flip-flop?

Because mine totally flip-flops.

And is it hot in here?

Wow. He’s good. I need to remember to check myself around him because damn.

“Let her go, Discord,” Havoc throws over his shoulder as he strides out of Black Bean.

Discord releases me with a sinister grin. “Oh yeah, I’m definitely going to see you around, Faith.”

He takes his sweet time following Havoc. Good Lord. What an arrogant pair they make. Those two alone can knock the planet off its axis.

Poor Kerri is flushed red. She’s sweaty, too. Awesome. I’ve never seen her flustered. Not once in seven years. It’s settled. I’ve got to get her to Mayhem—often—because if anyone needs her ovaries rattled, it’s my best friend.

And Havoc certainly looks like he can get the job done right.
