“Yes, please. Fill me up.” I slide up and down, every movement bringing me closer to the edge.
Flint pumps faster and harder, his hand moving to my waist to steady me as my breasts bounce up and down with each firm thrust.
“Tell me you’re mine,” he orders, his voice rough.
I’m so close to the edge that my orgasm overtakes me as I tell him I’m his, half-moaning and half-screaming as my body trembles with pleasure. His hot cum spurts up into me as he comes with a loud groan.
My thighs are shaking as I clamber off him and he spoons me, stroking my hair softly until I fall asleep.
Chapter Six
FLINT
I’m wrapped around Poppy when I wake up, both of us nestled under the covers. Scamp is panting steadily on my side of the bed. He cocks his head when I open my eyes. I kiss the back of Poppy’s neck softly, easing out of bed.
Picking up the clothes I’ve discarded, I pull on my jeans and sweater, then my boots, opening the door to go outside with Scamp. It’s stopped snowing and the sun glints off the top of the trees. The dog rushes around, doing his business, and then rolling on his back. I almost want to join him.
A huge, shit-eating grin stretches across my face. I’ve forgotten how it feels to be this happy. Rushing from emergency to emergency, taking all the shifts I could, then sleeping it off on repeat–that’s been my life for too damn long. But something was missing; I knew it, but I couldn’t admit it. Poppy coming into my life is like the sun breaking through the clouds.
As I walk back through the door to the cabin, the radio and TV turn on. The power’s back. I head back outside and turn off the generator. When I open the front door to come back inside, Poppy’s standing there, a sheet wrapped around her, blinking sleepily.
“What’s happening?” Her hair is mussed up. She’s adorable.
“Power’s back, Pixie.” I walk up to her and press her against me, without even closing the door. I kiss her as she gasps.
“You’re cold! But don’t stop.” Her nipples are hard under the sheet and it starts to drop, revealing that lusciously soft skin.
Kissing her deeper this time, my hand moves to cup her ass and she moans into my mouth. I’m about to pick her up when the roar of a snow plow truck interrupts us. I stand in front of Poppy and she peeks over my shoulder.
Grizz and Zander from the firehouse wave as they pull up in front of the house and get out.
“You’re a lot morecozythan we expected, Flint. Thought we were gonna have to get you down from that little cabin up the mountain…” Grizz arches one of his bushy eyebrows.
“Did you get the message from Ember Heart?” I ask.
“Yep. We also told Dean’s girlfriend that her sister was okay. They got the base station back online, but there’s a lot of work to do. Are you ready to come with us? We need all the help we can get.”
“Okay. Give me a second.” I pull the door closed behind me. Poppy is staring at me, her eyes wide.
“I’m so embarrassed.” Her cheeks are flaming red.
“It’s fine. The guys are used to it.” I shrug.
She takes a step back. “Oh, you mean this happens a lot?”
I shake my head. “No. That’s not what I meant. We see people in all kinds of situations. It’s not something to get embarrassed about.”
She looks at me for a long moment. “I’m going to put my clothes on. You’re free to go.”
“Pixie…”
“Seriously, Flint. It’s fine. I know they need you.” Poppy turns and then walks back into the bedroom.
I got that all wrong, but I don’t have time to explain. And I get the feeling she’s pushing me away. Something twists in my heart as I grab my coat and backpack, and go outside.
“We were worried about you,” Zander says as I get in the truck. He’s a probie - a probationary firefighter - and he’s still learning the ropes.
Grizz snorts. “Correction. I wasn’t worried. You were made for snow storms like that. And not only did you handle the storm, it looks like you handled the girl, too! Wait ‘til I tell Dean that you–”
