“No microchip. Skinny little thing, isn’t he? Maybe one of the summer visitors was feeding him and then they left. Shame they didn’t think to take him up to the shelter before they went.” Dr. Abbott shakes his head. “You want me to give them a call?”

“Absolutely not! He’s my cat now. Let’s get him up to date with his jabs. Is his eye okay?” I stroke Patch’s back.

“Yes, he lost this a while back. Either a fight or an accident. Healed okay, bless him.”

“Whatever he needs, he gets. No expense spared. And if you give me the shelter details, I’d like to make a donation. Thanks, doc.”

Leaving the vets with a giant sack of cat food under one arm and the carrier in the other, I nearly run straight into Savannah. She holds up her arms and puts her hands on my chest to stop me from running straight into her.

“You in a hurry?” She smells so good, like lavender mixed with honey. My body responds to her instantly, electric pulses running from the crown of my head to my cock.

“I was going to come find you. You left in a rush yesterday. If I’m not mistaken, you’re working at my house from five until seven tonight.”

“That’s right. If you still want me to come.” She looks down at the ground.

“Of course I do. Look, about our situationship…” I stop to let two small elderly ladies, both with frizzy white curls and curious expressions, pass by.

Savannah holds her fingers up to my lips. “Shh! I can tell you’ve never lived in a small town before. If the Howl sisters hear us, the whole town will know by dawn.”

“Is that such a bad thing?” I step even closer to her.

“I’m not going to answer that.” She nods to the window of the vet’s office, where Dr. Abbott and his nurse are both peering at us through the window.

“You want stealth mode. I get it. Okay, I’ll see you later.” Repressing the urge to kiss her soft, pink lips, I walk to the car. Once Patch’s carrier is on the seat next to me, I spy on Savannah’s progress down the street. She wheels her bike onto the road, her long legs pumping as she gathers speed. The sight is so sexy that I’m instantly hard, dreaming of spreading her plump thighs.

When Savannah arrives at my place at five, she insists on cleaning upstairs. I prepare dinner, making a beef stew that was my mother’s recipe. She hasn’t agreed to stay and eat with me, but I’m hoping the aromas will convince her.

She comes into the kitchen at seven on the dot. “I’m all done.”

“I’ve made dinner. Will you stay and have some?”

Her expression is unreadable. We stare at each other as the stew bubbles merrily on the stove.

“Weston, this is getting tricky. I really like you. And I don’t have time to like anyone. Especially not tall, handsome, intriguing men with a girl in every port.”

I grin. “I don’t have a girl in every port. I get seasick. One of the reasons I don’t have a yacht.”

She shakes her head, walking closer. “And you call yourself a billionaire?”

“That’s just an easy label for the press. And I’m not intending to be a billionaire for long. I want to set up a charitable foundation to offer tech education to kids who can’t afford it.”

Savannah sits on the chair in front of me and I hand her a glass of wine. “That’s very philanthropic of you.”

“Us evil billionaires have to make amends somehow. Tell me you like beef stew…” I stir the big pan in front of me.

“I love beef stew. So the foundation is your plan for the future?”

“Yes. I’m in Snowflake Falls so I can see my nephews more often. I’ve had enough of San Francisco.”

“Looking to settle down in a small town? There are worse places. I’m born and raised here, it’s a friendly area.”

I ladle the stew into a bowl, chopping up some crusty bread. She asks me questions about my company while we eat. I can’t mention tomorrow’s contract until it’s signed, so I talk about the first part of the deal, which has been public for months.

“I’m impressed.” She runs her finger around the edge of her glass. She’s taken out her tight ponytail and her glorious hair spills around her shoulders.

“With my stew? Or the deal?”

“Both. You seem pretty level-headed for a rich guy. But what about all those beautiful models and actresses? I see you all the time in those gossip magazines.”
