I wrap the sheet around me and heave myself off the bed to walk to the window. My legs are stronger, the drugs leaving my system. Rain is falling, but it’s lighter now. The drops streak down the glass and distort the lights outside.
There’s a creak as the door opens and Kaia comes in with a tray of food. She walks quietly around the side of the bed and puts it on the table. She’s close enough to touch and I step even closer to her, expecting her to move.
I look down at her. She doesn’t meet my gaze, so I duck my chin until she looks up and I can see those gorgeous tawny eyes.
“I’m not your enemy.” My belly’s tensed and I’m breathing harder. She smells so good, daisies and doughnuts and fresh rain all mixed in with each other.
“Then what are you? You’re sure not my friend.” Her voice is quiet, but she still doesn’t move away. Her chest rises and falls as she stares back at me. Kaia’s pupils are huge and she blinks her eyes a couple of times, as if she’s disoriented.
“Can we start again? I think you’ve had a bad impression of me from Blade.”
Her body stiffens as I mention his name. “He hates you. And you hate him. He said you want to kill him.”
“I was angry as hell with him, but I wasn’t going to kill him. We’ve all been trying to straighten him out. He’s putting the club in danger, all of us, but himself most of all. It’s like he has a death wish.”
Her eyes fill with tears and she swallows, then looks away. “I lost Mom and Dad. Ican’tlose my brother too. I don’t know why I’m telling you this. Maybe you’re lying to me.”
I run my hand up from her chin to catch a tear as it drops. “I’m not. I’ll never lie to you, angel. Let me help.”
She shakes her head and closes her eyes. And I can’t resist her.
I gather her in my arms, holding her close, pressing her soft curves against the hard lines of my body. I expect her to push me away, to tell me to stop, but she relaxes into my embrace, fitting against me like she was made for me. I stroke her golden hair, which is tied up in a ponytail.
Kaia shivers. “We shouldn’t be doing this.” Her nipples are hard points against my chest and my painfully hard dick twitches against her. She breathes harder as I run my finger down her cheek, turning her face up to mine. I should be taking it slow, convincing her we’re made for each other. Instead, I’m desperate to get as close to her as I can. Preferably balls deep inside her, making her squeal with delight.
I press my lips on hers, claiming her mouth with mine. She moans a little as I explore her mouth with my tongue and it’s the sexiest sound I ever heard. Her tits are pressed tight against me and I run my hand from her neck down to her back to press her against me. The sheet I’m wearing unravels and drops to the floor but I don’t give a fuck.
Voices in the corridor make Kaia push at my chest. I’m not ready to let her go yet, so I slowly kiss her again and then let her go. Her chest is heaving, tits bouncing with each breath. I want to drag her down to the bed here and now.
She leans down and grabs the sheet, pulling it up just as Dr. Aziz pushes the door open. He stops for a second, looking quizzically at the two of us, and then walks to the end of the bed to pick up the chart.
“Thank you, nurse. I need a word with our patient, please.” His voice is carefully neutral.
I hold up my hand. “Whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of Kaia.”
“Right, then. It’s come to our attention that you’re a member of The Order. We had an anonymous call. I’m well aware of the trouble motorcycle gangs cause and I don’t want any of that at this hospital. As you seem to be on your feet, it’s clear you’re getting better. I’m happy for you to go now, or first thing in the morning.”
I laugh. “Prejudiced against bikers, doc? We’re not all bad, all the time…”
“Kaia will make sure your clothes are returned to you. We had to cut your leather pants off but the rest are fine.”
“I can ride buck naked if needs be.” I glance over at Kaia, but she’s avoiding my gaze. “I’ll ask my brother to bring me some.”
“Good. As I said. No trouble.”
I shake my head. “Everyone assumes I’m the enemy. I’m not.”
“Nurse, can you follow me?”
The doc and Kaia walk out the door and I’m on my own, staring at a plate of lukewarm hospital food. I grab my cell. If I text Joker, he’ll be here within an hour or so.
I should be champing at the bit to get out of here and back to real life, but how in hell can I leave without my girl?
ChapterFour
KAIA
Dr. Aziz seems to think Saxon was hassling me, so he says he’ll take over his care until my shift is finished. When I’m done for the night, I walk quickly past Saxon’s room without looking in.
