“Oh,” she whispered as her fright lessened.

“I ordered some in case you might like to try them. What juice do you like best?”

“Grape first and orange is in second place.”

“Then I’m glad I ordered both juices. See what’s in that one,” he suggested, nodding at the next sack.

Watching her face became his favorite activity. Her expression shifted between excitement and revulsion. Broccoli, bad. Pizza rolls, good. Caden was satisfied that he’d blindly chosen a few things she was excited to have in the house.

When the items sat on the counter waiting to be put away, Caden suggested, “Let me turn on a cartoon for you while I findplaces for these goodies. I haven’t seen Fluffikins for a while. What does he like?”

Her mouth rounded in a perfect O as Brooklyn remembered her stuffie. “I’ll go get him.”

In a short while, she’d curled up on the couch with her bunny in her arms. After a short debate, she settled on an old cartoon series Caden remembered loving as a kid. From the rapt expression on her face, Brooklyn enjoyed it tremendously.

CHAPTER 7

The sound of running water reached Brooklyn’s ears. She was simultaneously nervous and excited. Baths meant no clothes. Would Caden see her naked or could she hide in the bubbles? Did he want to see her naked?

Brooklyn remembered the sensation of pressing tightly to his powerful frame as they’d kissed earlier. She hadn’t reached down to touch him, but she was pretty sure his cock had hardened against her. Squeezing her thighs together, she imagined what making love with Caden would be like. He wasn’t a teenager, but an experienced man. Of course, he’d had other partners. Maybe she wouldn’t be as beautiful as they were. Or as good in bed.

The TV clicked off, making Brooklyn sit up quickly. She squeezed Fluffikins to her chest. Please don’t let me disappoint him.

“I don’t like that look, little girl. Are you scared?” Caden sat next to her and lifted her onto his lap. “Tell me what’s going on in your brain.”

“What if you don’t like me?”

“I already like you, Brookie,” he answered without hesitating.

“Maybe I’m not good enough for you.”

“Good enough how? I don’t think having a crappy ex makes you a bad person. That’s on him,” Caden told her, stroking her hair from her face.

She noticed he had a scrunchie around his wrist. Her daddy was getting her hair piled on her head, so it didn’t get wet. He thought of everything.

“He is a bad guy,” she agreed, loving the feel of his hands over her scalp. “I didn’t mean that.”

“Tell Daddy what’s worrying you.”

“I’m not anything special. I don’t have big boobs or a badonkadonk.”

Caden laughed at her term. “I’m not all smooth skin and white teeth, little girl. I’ve got scars and a couple of bullet holes Zale sewed up for me in the field. My body won’t win a beauty contest. I hope that doesn’t turn you off.”

“Of course not. That’s totally shallow.”

Her words echoed in the silence of the empty room, making her consider what she’d said. “Oh! I don’t thinkyou’reshallow.”

“I’m glad to hear that, Brookie. I think you are beautiful, sexy, and utterly adorable. That won’t change when I get your clothes off of you. It’s a good thing we’ll take Fluffikins into the bathroom as our chaperone or I might ravish you on the rug.”

“Really?” she asked.

“Look at me, little girl.”

It took her several seconds to meet his gaze fully. “Meeting you was the luckiest day of my life. I’m attracted to you on every level possible.”

“Okay,” she whispered. He’d never lied to her before. She’d gamble on trusting him now.

“Good girl. Now, before the tub overflows and sweeps the three of us out the front door, let’s go pop you in the bath.”
