She stares at me with wide eyes. “You don’t even know me, and you want to help me.”
I lean over the table so she can feel my presence. “That’s true, I don’t know you very well, but what I do know is…I’d like to.” All my rules are out the fucking window.
She stops mid-bite of her cinnamon roll, one eyebrow arched. “Dane…” She finishes her last bite and sips her coffee.
I watch her intently. Thinking about those thick, dark pink lips wrapped around my cock. Shaking myself out of the dirty thoughts, I say, “Kendall…”
“Dane…you don’t seem like the type.”
Dragging my hand over her arm, I say, “Apparently, I am with you.”
“Come on. One-night stands are your thing.” A sly smirk crosses her face. “Tell me I’m wrong.”
“Okay, okay. You got me there. They usually are. You’re someone I don’t want to have just a one-night stand with, though.”
“I used the key for something casual. I’m not sure I’m ready for anything more than that.” I hear what she’s saying, but I see it flash in her eyes, something I can’t quite make out.
“My nights are usually just casual. But last night, Kendall was unforgettable.”
She eyes me with suspicion. “Do you say that to all the ladies you take back to your room?”
She makes me laugh, but she isn’t wrong. That’s my usual M.O.
Ignoring her rhetorical question, I stand up and grab her hand to stop her from leaving just yet. Slinking my arm around her waist, I tug her against me. Her emerald green eyes glow back at me as she bites her bottom lip. I lean in and rub my thumb over it. My hand moves to the back of her head as I kiss her. Soft, luscious lips press against mine, and I can’t help but slip my tongue into her mouth. The warmth and taste of her sends all my blood to my cock. I’m sure she can feel that against her stomach. Smiling as I kiss her, I instantly miss the feeling of her pressed against me when she pulls away.
Man, pull it together.
“I hope your meeting goes well. And if I wanted to see you again, how would I find you?”
She laughs. “You’re serious?”
“Dead serious.”
Hesitating a bit, she digs into her bag and hands me her business card. “I won’t be offended if you don’t call.”
I wave her card in front of her. “You’ll be hearing from me.”
“Have a great day, Dane.”
The only thing that comes out of my mouth is a lame, “You too, Kendall.”
She walks out the door, not even looking back, and the door closes behind her. I’m left standing there holding her card and wondering why I let her walk out the door.
FIVE
Kendall
Ican’t believe how quickly this day went by. I’m already pulling into my driveway, and it’s not surprising my friends are already here—most likely to get the scoop on last night. I texted them all this morning with a very brief update.
When I walk through the front door, I hear them chatting in the kitchen. I drop my bag on the floor, put the keys into the bowl, and slip off my shoes. When my feet pad their way to the kitchen, there’s a charcuterie board sprawled out on the island—cheese, grapes, strawberries, nuts, meats. I’m starving. The last thing I ate was at the hotel with Dane, and a smile crosses my face at the memory.
“Hey, you finally made it home. We made sure to have provisions and drinks ready.” Faith holds up her margarita. “Want one?”
“Of course. I thought I’d be out of there a little earlier, but when you’re the owner…”
“Totally get it.” Faith shakes her head. “It always falls on you. But we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
I shake my head and grab my margarita to propose a toast. “To big dreams.” And our glasses click together with Addison and Lane, too.
