“Damn, this couch is comfortable as hell. Here I was thinking I got the right one.”

“I spent like five thousand dollars on this couch. It better be comfortable.”

“Big baller, huh?” he laughed, leaning back with his arms stretched across the top cushions, and I sat down beside him.

“Well, I thought I was up until now. I’m kind of jobless now.”

“What the fuck do you mean? How is a lawyer jobless?”

“My firm dropped me after what happened at the strip club that day. They were pretty much embarrassed by the way I acted trying to get at Jinx.”

“Tight ass motherfuckers always dropping people for the slightest inconvenience,” he muttered. “You're a damn good lawyer. You’ll have someone else to defend one day. Shit, maybe even me.” He cracked a grin.

“Are you serious? You think I’m a good lawyer?”

“Yeah. Why else would they have brought you into their company? You think a white man is about to put a young Black girl on a big case like that if he doesn’t think she is good at what she does? Come on now.”

He pumped me up, which made me smile.

“Well, you obviously didn’t have faith in me. You said at the courthouse that day that you had to ‘help’ me with my case.” I laughed.

“Don’t mind that. I was just talking. I love my boy, and I needed to make sure he got off. Just like I have to figure out how to get rid of these motherfuckers coming after us now because of some shit I did to a family of mutha fuckas.”

“Yeah, I heard about that.”

“I know you heard. I just wish you’d tell me from who. That’s the type of shit that helps us handle them and know when they coming, what all they plotting. What snakes we have slithering around our camp,” He shook his head.

“They're playing dirty, Bria, and innocent people were in that building tonight, and that shit is going to keep happening until Hov and I put a stop to it.”

I dropped my chin to my chest. “Yeah, you’re right. I just hate that I’m being put in a messed up position by telling you.”

“What fucked-up position?”

“I don’t want to say, Crew. I’m just really messed up right now.”

Crew got down on his knees in front of me and grabbed behind my elbows to pull me closer.

“I want you to look me in my eyes and tell me you don’t want to look out for me when you know I’d do the same for you.”

“I know, I just.”

He stopped my words with a soft, unexpected kiss on my lips. His lips melted into mine, warm and slow, and I instantly wanted more, so much more, but he pulled back from me before I could open my mouth to kiss him deeper.

“You keep it real with me and I promise I got you. In every way,” he murmured, his nose brushing mine, his cool breath spilling over my lips. His handsome ass looks and the danger I know he came with seemed to metaphorically wrap around me so tight I couldn’t think straight.

“Crew, I don’t know what to say.”

“Say I can have your ass tonight. That’s all I want to hear right now.” I started to nod my head.

“You can, as long as you are gentle.”

“I can’t promise I’ll be gentle, but I can promise you will like it.”

“Alright, that’s fine with me.”

“Don’t say it’s fine with you. Tell me you want this dick.”

Crew kissed me on my lips.
