“You almost had me,” I muse.

Her smile so bright it’s almost blinding. “No almost about it, mister.”

Without thinking much of it, I playfully nudge her arm. Something I’d do with anyone else on the ranch. Except with anyone else, I don’t feel the jolt that has my eyes widening and Blair sucking in a breath.

“What wastha–”she goes to say just as Case appears next to us.

“C’mon, you two. There’ll be time for talkin’ later,” he says, ushering Blair ahead of us before slinging his shoulder over mine.

“What wasthat?” my twin whispers once Blair is out of earshot.

“What do you–” Then it hits me. “Youfeltthat?”

“Uh huh,” he nods. “You didn’t when it was me?”

Now he’s lost me. “Whenwhatwas you?”

Case’s eyes bug out. “Oh damn. This isnotgoin’ to be fun for me.”

“Brother, I love you, we shared a womb after all, but right now, you’re makin’ absolutelynosense.”

He frowns. “Sutt, that jolt on your arm, I felt it too.”

Then it hits me. “Wait…” I look over his shoulder to where Blair is laughing with Wyatt, Birdie, and her uncle while they all test the hot pizzas.

“Nowhe gets it.” There’s no way… “Yes, there is,” he answers as if I said my thoughts out loud.

There have been many times when we don’thaveto speak to know what the other one is thinking. And this appears to be one of those moments.

“I can’t…” I shake my head, my chest tightening and my head suddenly feeling like it might burst. “I don’t believe it. There’s no way…”

He pulls me into his side again and starts moving me toward the food. “Funny that you think you have a say in this, brother. None of us did, and sorry to say, it seems like you’re goin’ to be no different.”

Chapter 5

Blair

“Blair, it’s good to finally meet you,” the hospital boss Tabitha says.

After meeting with the one-person human resources department and getting the quickest onboarding I’ve had in my entire career, I was directed to the top floor to meet the woman Uncle George vouched for me to.

“Nice to put a face to the name,” I reply, shaking her hand and following her into her office.

“Your uncle speaks very highly of you.”

I smile. “I think just as highly of him. He was somewhat of an inspiration when I decided to pursue medicine.”

Tabitha’s warm gaze meets mine as she rounds her desk and takes a seat, waving her hand out for me to do the same opposite her. “George is a good man.”

I nod, a little curious about the soft way she said my uncle’s name.

“Well, I won’t keep you long, I just wanted to meet you face to face and check in to make sure you had everythin’ you need for your first week.”

“To be honest, it’s a bit early to tell until I get started,” I reply.

She sends me a look of approval. “Good answer. I can already see why George recommended you for this role.”

“To be fair, I only know what he’s told me, which is that you want me to identify what you think what services the hospital should be providing but don’t at present. Then, come up with a plan as to how to implement them.”
