A little smile kicked up his lips. “We could go to their house with Ollie and tell them.”

I shook my head. “That would mean exposing you to whatever asshole is after us.”

“Sheldon, I’m starting to go stir-crazy. I get why I need to be protected. Hell, it was even my idea to stay inside, but I trust you to keep me safe.” Why did he have to say all of this? I liked him in the building. It was well guarded. No one would get in who wasn’t supposed to. Out in the world, anyone could take a shot at him. It wasn’t like Colleen and Davis’s house was protected with a security system.

“How about a compromise? We wait until the situation is resolved, and then we go there?”

“That means keeping this between us for what could be weeks to come.”

“True,” I muttered. “Okay, new plan. We tell them over the phone and plan to see them in person as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

“Until then, let’s shower and see if Vail and Hart are free so we can give them the news.”

Telling them meant telling Jordan. I’d also need to get to Oleander before anyone else did. At least people in this building knew how to keep a secret. If they couldn’t, we’d all be screwed.

Forest peeled himself from me. Literally, our skin was gross and sticky. I loved having him covered in me and vice versa, but it reached a point where it had to come off.

He stood first and held out a hand to help me up. I didn’t need it; however, I would always take any opportunity to touch him. What I’d forgotten about in my blissed-out, love-filled stupor was how sore my ass would be.

“Jesus,” I hissed.

“I’m sorry,” he rushed to say. “You should have let me stretch you.”

“It’s fine. I just forgot about it, or I would have gotten up slower.” Forest didn’t need to feel guilty over this, especially not when I asked for it. Maybe next time I’d let him use more lube and his fingers first.

Forest put his arm around my waist and walked beside me to the bathroom. Okay, this part wasn’t so bad at all. Next time a bullet grazed me, I was going to soak in the attention I’d be bound to get from him. At least then he’d have nothing to feel guilty about. Although, I thought he’d find a way. Forest wanted me to be happy, to know how much he cared about me. He could say he didn’t, but he still harbored guilt for not being at the hospital with me the last time I was seriously injured.

He started the shower and made sure to get the water to the perfect temperature before we stepped in and met in the middle. The water began rinsing the cum and sweat away while we traded kisses and words of love.

Finding the body wash, Forest began caring for every part of me, paying special attention to my ass.

“My balls are feeling a little left out,” I told him.

He grinned. “We wouldn’t want that, now would we?”

That was how we ended up coming for a second time. Mouths were involved. I used a few fingers on Forest. Needless to say, by the time we left the shower, my fingers were pruned and my body was drained.

“I think it’s time for you to finally sleep,” he said, his arm coming around me again.

“You may be right.” I swayed into him. This happened before. I’d let myself go too long without a decent night’s sleep until my body gave up the fight and eventually crashed. I hoped Jordan or the others didn’t need anything from me until tomorrow because I would be out of commission.

Forest helped me into bed, where he climbed in with me, our naked bodies dry but our hair still damp. We could tell people about us tomorrow. He wrapped himself around me and held me close as my eyes slid closed and my breath evened out. There was no better way to fall asleep than in the arms of the man I loved.

FOREST

“Forest, wake up,” I heard in the distance as someone shook me. Why was this happening? I was sleeping.

“Leavmealone,” I managed to mumble.

“I can’t. You have to get up.”

The dream I had hung on. Sheldon had asked me to marry him, and I said yes. If only that were my reality. We were in a good place, an amazing relationship.

“Fuck,” I gasped as I sat up. That really happened. He proposed to me. “Sheldon?” I felt around the bed trying to find him, but came up empty. “Sheldon?” My voice got louder.

“Forest!”
