I jog around and help Sorrow out of the car before leading her up toward Matilda and Aiden’s house.
“No, don’t mind me, I’ll walk myself up,” Katy calls out from behind us. I stop and turn around to wait for her. Sorrow—my arm around her— turns with me.
“You didn’t have to wait for us. You could have gone on in with Marcus.”
“I would have, but he’s helping someone to their car.”
“What? Who?”
“I don’t know. Didn’t recognize them, but then I didn’t see them before Marcus bumped into them and knocked them flying.”
“They okay?”
“I think so. Scraped hands and knees. I believe I heard her mumble something about having a first aid kit in her car.”
“Her?” Sorrow asks with a wiggle of her brows.
“Yeah, her. But don’t read anything into it. Marcus has a type.”
“Really? I haven’t seen him with anyone before.”
“He has a type, but he’s also picky.” Katy chuckles.
“You seem to know an awful lot about his dating life,” I grunt. I think the guys need to watch what they say in front of her.
“I’m nosy, and you guys are not exactly shy about sharing. Well, unless it’s serious. Then you clam up tighter than a?—”
“Thanks, Katy. We got it.” I roll my eyes at her, though she’s not exactly wrong.
“So Marcus’s type?” Sorrow probes as we reach the door.
“Blonde, stacked, legs up to her armpits.” Katy sighs.
“He also likes them smart,” I add.
“And submissive,” Katy throws out as she disappears inside.
“Well, that was more than I was expecting.” Sorrow chuckles. “I’m not sure how many nerdy supermodels, who like to be bossed around, Marcus is going to find in Tempest, though.”
“And herein lies the problem.”
We make it inside, instantly being swallowed up in the chaos and noise. Zoe spots us right away and runs over, first throwing herself at me before reaching over and giving Sorrow a hug.
“We have pizza. You want me to get you some?” she offers.
“Sure, that would be great,” Sorrow replies before I can decline.
“You did that on purpose,” I bend down and murmur in her ear.
She smiles up at me innocently as Zoe runs over with a couple of large slices of pizza in her hands. Sure enough, it’s covered in pineapple.
“Here you go, Banner.” She hands me a slice first. I look at it and fight back my grimace. “This one is for you, Sorrow.”
Sorrow bends down and grabs it from her before taking a big bite, her eyes fluttering closed. “Hmm…so good. Pineapple on pizza is the best. Don’t you think, Banner?”
I glare at the witch before taking a tiny bite, fighting to hide my reaction. “Yum.”
“I know, right?” Zoe runs off as I shake my head. “You think you know a girl, then she throws you under a bus…”
