She pulls back; her face flushed. “I’m sorry. I was just so excited?—”
I slam my mouth against hers, stealing her words and her breath. The electricity that’s always between us sparks brightand dangerous, threatening to combust, but I don’t stop, and she doesn’t pull away.
It isn’t until a laugh sounds behind us that I pull back. I look over her shoulder and see a group of brothers heading our way. Looking up at Legs—her lips swollen, her eyes burning with need—I know I can’t just sit here and watch them flirt with her when I know how turned on she is.
“Let’s go for a ride.”
She smiles, so damn sweet it’s enough to give me a toothache, and climbs off my lap, waiting for me to stand.
“You guys leaving?” Toot asks, dropping down next to me as I get up.
“We’re going for a ride,” Legs says, her eyes never leaving mine.
“Be safe and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
Legs smirks. “That doesn’t leave us much to work with, Toot.”
Grabbing her hand, I yank her away before they start flirting.
“It’s like that, is it, Midas?” Toot yells behind us.
I don’t bother turning around. I lift my free hand above my head and flip him off.
I’m laying with my head in her lap while she stares out at the water. Her fingers drift through my hair as we soak in the quiet of the moment.
“I like it here.”
“Me too. I come here to think... or just come here for the quiet.”
“Hmm. How’d you ever find this place?”
“Snake, actually. He proposed to his old lady here.”
“Snake?”
“Yeah. Used to be a friend of mine.”
“Used to?”
“You know who Bear was?”
“That… he’s the old VP, right?” she asks tentatively.
“Yeah. He tried to kill Blade so that he could take over. Well, Snake stepped up to be his right-hand man. I’m guessing he thought that made him Bear’s VP. The whole thing was a fucking mess.”
“It usually is.” She looks down at me with a shaky smile on her lips. “When Viper took over as president, let’s just say there were some who weren’t happy. It all worked out, obviously. But for a while, the club felt like it was split down the middle, and I was caught on the side of damned if you do or damned if you don’t.”
“I get people getting caught in the middle, but that’s not what happened with Snake. Motherfucker was too smart for that. You know if I hadn’t seen with my own eyes what he’d become, I wouldn’t have believed it. It didn’t make losing him any easier to deal with, though.”
“I’m sorry about your friend.”
“Don’t be. He made his bed.”
“Still…”
“No, he made his choice. The way I see it, you’ve gotta stand for something or fall for nothing. Bear would never have been my president. I would’ve followed Blade to the grave if that was the only option.”
“I get it. I’ve had to make the best of impossible situations, too.”
