“Me too. For all our sakes. When I get down to the final candidates, I’d like you, Sophie, and Lisa to meet with them as well. As you know, our team vibe is important.”
“Whatever you need, Mir.” Freya rose from her seat.
“Oh!” Miriam exclaimed, halting Freya’s steps. “Michael Kwon updated me this morning on what happened with your car. I’m so sorry. You’re okay, right?”
She nodded. “It was just shocking.”
“I can’t imagine. I’m glad Mr. Bonetti was with you.”
“Xander’s presence was definitely helpful.” She was sure she would have figured out what to do had she been by herself. However, she wasn’t going to lie. Having Xander there had been beyond reassuring.
Miriam winced. “Well, to add even more inconvenience to an already inconvenient situation, there was a snafu at the rental car company, and they won’t be able to deliver your rental car here until Monday midday.”
“Oh, okay. Um . . .” She frowned.
“If you need transportation,” Miriam rushed on, “I can arrange for the resort shuttle to take you home after your shift.”
“You know, Mir, I may be able to get a ride home.” Part of her was hesitant to reach out to Xander for a lift home, but if that goodbye kiss was any indication, she didn’t think he’d mind. “But I’ll let you know if it falls through.”
“I’m here all day, just let me know. Thanks again for your flexibility, Freya.”
With a wave to her boss, she made her way to the employee lounge. She donned her Pacific View apron, slipped her phone into her pocket, and snagged her coffee and the proposed schedule.
On her way to her station, she waved at Sophie, who was creating an intricate updo on a client. Glancing at the month’s schedule, she grimaced. Losing Hazel had thrown a wrench intoeveryone’s plans. The next two weeks were going to be hectic. Not to mention her brothers were probably going to kill her for not staying the entire Thanksgiving weekend.
A printout of her Saturday schedule was laid on top of her workstation. Her first client was a cut, color, and style. Glancing at the time, she saw she had five minutes before the woman would arrive. She pulled out her phone, took a deep breath in, and tried—unsuccessfully—to calm the growing nerves in her belly.
Bad news. The rental car isn’t going to be ready until Monday. If you’re not busy, would you be able to pick me up after work?
Xander
Of course. What do you say to dinner at my place tonight? We can relax and maybe watch a movie after?
She glanced at her packed schedule and cringed.
That sounds really nice.
Wait—are you a rom-com or action-flick woman?
She couldn’t help but grin.
Both. Though I wouldn’t be opposed to watching some classic action flicks. Aliens, Commando or Predator would be my top suggestions.
The dots on the bottom of her screen danced, stopped, and then danced again. Until finally...
Holy shit, you’re perfect.
Deal. Let me know what time you think you’ll be done and I’ll come and get you.
She glanced at her schedule again.
I should be done by 4:30. And thank you, Xander. I really appreciate the chauffeur services today.
Trust me, Frey. It’s not a hardship driving a beautiful woman around. See you later.
Warmth heated her insides, and that giddy, floating-on-air feeling threatened to engulf her. This time, she embraced it.
Yeah, she was a fan of this new go-with-the-flow thing. It definitely had its perks.
