“I am.” I run my hands up his spine. “And you’re mine.”

I bring my hips up to match him, and we find a rhythm.Tension shows in his face, his gaze locking with mine. We rise together and then we fall, and he lets out a groan, his body stiffening against mine.

“Oh my God,” he says. His breathing’s heavy, and he comes to a stop.

We lie there for a moment, basking in the afterglow before he slowly lifts his weight and moves to my side.

“I have to get rid of this and then I’ll be back. Okay?”

I nod. “Okay.”

When he’s gone, self-consciousness creeps over me, and I pull the blanket up to cover me.

Patrick smiles as he walks back to the bed and climbs in beside me.

He nuzzles the nape of my neck. “I know I asked before, but are you okay?”

“So much better than okay.”

His hot breath tickles my shoulders when he laughs. “I really do love you, Cassie. I’m so glad we found each other like this.”

“Me too.” I sigh. “I should go.”

“Stay a bit longer. Just lie with me a while.”

I shouldn’t, but I close my eyes. I’m so safe and warm in his arms, and I never want to leave his bed.

And before I know it, sleep pulls at me until I’m gone.

I’m so hot.

My eyelids don’t want to open, but I force them to.

It takes a moment for me to remember where I am.

Patrick’s wrapped around me, his heavy thigh resting over mine. We’re both hot and sticky from the summer heat—the humidity must have risen while were sleeping.

I look around for a clock, but most of Patrick’s things went with the movers.

Shoving his leg off mine, I reach over him to where his phone is on the bedside cabinet. Mine’s still in my bag somewhere downstairs.

“What’s going on?”

“I just need to check the time.”

“It’s still early,” he mumbles, but his eyes are closed and he’s moving like a sloth—still half asleep.

Pressing the power button on his phone lights up the screen.

2:07 a.m.

“Oh my God. I didn’t mean to fall asleep. My parents are going to kill me.” I drop his phone back on the cabinet and pull away.

Patrick laughs as I scramble out of bed and drag my underwear on.

“They know where you are. If they were angry, they’d be here.”

“That’s not the point.”
