“I wish, but I gotta get Brixxi from daycare. You gotta meet my girl one day.”

“I never thought I’d be a stepdaddy, but here we are. When does Step Daddy Season start?”

Her laugh was contagious, and she was about to laugh me right out of my Versace briefs.

Halo – 3

DaVinci – 0

“Why are you so funny?”

I shrugged, tossing my arm around her shoulders, “Laughter is the best medicine in my opinion.” I said and led her to the car.

“You ready to take me back to get mine?”

“Not really. But yeah.”

I opened the door for her and helped her in. The ride back to my office was quiet different from when we came. I had one hand on the wheel and the other intertwined with hers. Every red light was an excuse to look at her, to take in the way the late afternoon sun hit her face. I’d had a bomb ass day.

We pulled into the parking garage at Piedmont Center, and I found a spot near where she’d parked earlier. I cut the engine, but didn’t move to get out.

“What?” she asked.

“Just thinking.”

“About?”

“About how I don’t want you to leave yet.”

“I have to get Brixxi, but if I didn’t, we’d still be at the movies.”

“I know. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.” I turned to face her fully. “What are you doing Friday night?”

“Friday? I’m off. Why?”

“Have dinner with me.”

“Another date?”

“Yeah, another date. I plan to date you for as long as we can move around. Shit, throw in some vacations too.”

She smiled. “You asking or telling?”

“Asking. Always asking when it comes to you.”

“Then yes. I’d love to have dinner with you on Friday.”

“Good. I’ll pick you up.”

“Fine with me, I like being a passenger princess or Luxe Transportation princess.”

“You're the funny one.”

I leaned over and kissed her, in no rush. I was trying to memorize the taste of her, prolong her leaving me. When I pulled back, her eyes were still closed. “Come on. Let me walk you to your car.”

We got out, and I took her hand as we walked across the parking garage. When we rounded the corner to where she’d parked, she stopped dead.

“DaVinci.”
