We were cooking now. I already had the silver MAISON MARGIELA Tabi metallic ankle boots and a leather pleated skirt in my bag. The associate brought out a pair of LV monogrammed black stockings, and that sealed it.
I was ready for my WAGS debut.
Twenty minutes later, I was walking out of Louis Vuitton with three bags, a matching purse, oversized sunglasses, and a dent in DaVinci’s black card that sent a whole wave through me.
“I can’t believe I just spent that much money,” I said as we loaded everything into Omni’s car. I climbed into the backseat, the shopping bags piled around me, and pulled out my phone.
Me:I got the outfit.
Three dots appeared immediately.
My One and Only:Let me see.
Me:No. You’ll see it at the game. And you'd better put up 30. If you flop, I’m getting a new boyfriend.
Three dots popped up.
My One and Only:You real funny. Keep talking like you're not stuck with me.
I smiled down at my screen. I could not wait to see him, kiss him, melt into him, swallow him. I was a mess, and I did not care.
“DaVinci, word on the street is you’ve found a special woman? Is she why you’ve been playing so well?” one of the reporters asked as I stepped off the plane. I kept walking.
Two days felt like two weeks. We’d won on the road. And I had closed another deal while in Charlotte. I played well, did all the press shit I was supposed to do. So I wasn’t in the mood to do more. My mind was somewhere else, as usual, if I’m keeping it 100.
My mind was always on her.
On that phone call, where I’d told her I loved her, I meant that shit. Every word. And whether she was ready to say it or not didn’t change how I felt. Halo was it for me. She was all I could think about. When I saw my future, I saw her in it. I saw her by my side.
Langston was waiting when I came down the jet bridge.
“Welcome back, boss. How was the trip?”
“Long.” I clapped him on the shoulder as we headed toward baggage claim. “But we got the wins. That’s all that matters.”
“I saw. You had a good game last night. Thirty-two points.”
“Yeah, it was aight.” I pulled out my phone, checking for messages from Halo. Nothing yet, but she was probably at work.
We grabbed my bag and headed to the car. I had a club appearance tonight at Onyx—some promotional shit for a liquor brand I’d signed with last year. Normally, I’d go home first, shower, change, and mentally prepare myself for a few hours of fake smiles and camera flashes. But right now, all I wanted was to see Halo.
“Take me to my baby,” I said as we pulled out of the airport. “I want to surprise her.”
Langston smiled but didn’t say anything, just changed lanes and headed toward the station.
I pulled up to the station at 2:45 PM, and the bay doors were open. A few firefighters were outside washing one of the engines, and I could hear laughter and music coming from inside.
When I stepped out of the car, a couple of them looked up and did a double-take.
“Yo, is that DaVinci Bryns?” one of them said.
“Yeah, that’s him. He’s dating Grant,” another confirmed.
I nodded at them as I walked past, heading inside. The common room was to the left, and I could see people moving around, going about their day. Then I saw her.
Halo was in her uniform, hair pulled back in a neat bun, sitting at a table, filling out paperwork. She looked focused, professional, completely in her element. And beautiful as hell.
I leaned against the doorway and just watched her for a second, trying not to grin like an idiot.
