“Yeah, that’s what a boss does.”
“Won’t that be weird if we’re sleeping together?”
“It’s not like I’m going to give you a paycheck after every time we have sex. If that was the case, you’d probably end up with more money than me.” He chuckled, a sound that wasn’t lost on me. It had been a rare occasion for me to witness any kind of amusement from him, but lately, I’d been seeing his lighter side more and more.
I tossed the pillow at him. “Not funny.”
“Seriously, though, I don’t see a problem. You’ll do your job, and then we can have fun afterward.”
“It’s that easy?”
“Yep.”
“Okay,” I said resolutely. “Then are you going to tell your team we’re messing around?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s none of their business,” he responded, a tiny crease forming in the center of his brows.
“I think they would beg to differ.”
Jackson hopped off the bed and removed the condom, tossing it in a nearby wastebasket. “Like I said, it’s not their business.”
The last thing I wanted to do was argue over something I didn’t know was true or not. He knew his guys better than I did, so I didn’t press any further. He stretched his arms to the side, then moved them behind him and arched his back, lettingout a soft growl. He finished by cracking his neck from side to side before rolling his torso in such a way that I was entranced. “What?” he asked, looking at me strangely.
“That was the sexiest stretch I’ve ever seen in my life.”
“That turned you on?” He approached the bed with a huge grin on his face.
“Yeah.”
“Good. Because I’m ready for another round.”
He grabbed my ankles and pulled me toward the edge of the bed. While my mind raced with all the negative possibilities of our arrangement, I was thankful for whatever time we had together.
My connection with Jackson made me feel alive for the first time in years. No, scratch that… in forever.
I never thought someone would intrigue me like he did.
Or frustrate me.
Or fuel this spark of passion inside me.
I just prayed I didn’t get burned.

Sophie snuggled into me, her hair fanning around her as she laid her head on my chest. I held on to her as if fearing she’d somehow vanish. An overwhelming sense of possessiveness rattled me, but I didn’t want to give the feeling too much recognition because I couldn’t act on it. I’d scare her away if I did, especially after everything she’d been through with her soon-to-be ex-husband. Granted, I didn’t know any of the details of their relationship except that he was an asshole and that she was frightened of him. But wasn’t that enough?
She trailed her fingertip over my collarbone, her soft touch making my eyelids heavy. After three orgasms, I was ready for sleep, especially since my training started in less than five hours. I’d be hurting in the ring, but each second spent with this woman was worth every ounce of drained energy.
“Careful, sweetheart.” I half laughed when she moved her leg between mine. “Watch the boys.”
“Sorry.” She tilted her head to look at me. “Don’t want to hurt them.”
“Please don’t.” What I was really asking was for her not to hurtme, but of course, I didn’t clarify. That scope of vulnerability was foreign to me.
