Ah, he thinks Wilder is Storm. They both look very different, so he’s showing that he’s even more of an idiot than I took him for.
“Do you have one of my men, Chester?” I ask instead. “I’m not giving you fuck all until he’s returned to me.”
“Yeah, about that. He figured out we were double crossing you and came in guns blazing,” Chester says ruefully. “Ace didn’t make it.”
Two men toss Ace’s big body onto the ground in front of me, and his eyes are sightless as he gazes up at me.Fuck.
Raising my gun, I shoot Chester in the chest.
“You’re not getting anything from me, especially when you can’t tell the money man from my Vice President,” I growl.
All hell breaks loose, and everything retains a blood red sheen to it. My men pour in from the back doors and I dodge the shots as I attempt to find cover.
Fuck me, I hate traitors.

“The labs are back for you, Doctor,” I tell the man who is gazing down at a chart.
“Thanks, Marney,” he mumbles under his breath.
I love when people can’t get my name right. Shaking my head, I walk to the next person who needs me. It’s been hours of being run off my feet, and I’m desperately ready for a break.
My stomach won’t stop growling, but I did manage to eat a protein bar an hour ago. There’s been no shortage of emergencies today, and it’s two in the morning. At this point, I’ll just keep going until I’m done with my shift.
“Nurse, we’ve got a gun shot!” someone yells, pulling my attention as I change my gloves. A couple of us walk quickly over as a gurney is pushed through the double doors.
“What am I looking at?” I ask. I’m sure a more senior nurse who has been working here for more than three seconds should be asking questions, but that’s not how things work at Mercy Hospital.
It’s all hands on deck here.
“He crashed through the doors and passed out. His friends said he’d been shot, and his girlfriend is here.”
A shiver moves over my spine and it feels as if someone’s walked over my grave. My fingers tremble as I pull down the neck gaiter covering his face.
It’s Lore.
