“I can’t.”
“What I told you about underestimating me? I don’t like repeating myself, baby. We’re going to get this shit settled tonight. I need another one, baby.”
“Kannon!”
After backing up, I reached around and thumbed her clit as I pounded into her. Carteay’s legs shook as she hummed and moaned and creamed all over my dick like I knew she would.
“That’s a good girl. See how good you cumming for me.”
“Yes,” she hissed as she collapsed.
“Get up. I ain’t finished with you.”
She waved weakly, making me laugh. I grinned as I sank into bed beside her. She moved to slide out of bed, but my hand landed on her hip, stopping her.
“What you doing?” I asked.
“I need to tinkle and wash up.”
“Nah,” I said, pulling her hips to me. My heart slammed against my ribcage as we settled into each other. It felt so good being close to her that I didn’t want to let her go.
“What do you meannah?”
“Nah, that pussy makes me sleep too hard. I need to make sure you don’t pull another disappearing act before I get a chance to make sure my son is OK, so lay it down.”
“Are you serious?”
“You took my pussy away to God knows where and didn’t bother to call me for months. You safe worded and tried to hide my damn baby from me. A nigga tried to hurt you, Carteay. You shoulda been here with me. I shoulda been there with you. I’m not letting you down again. I can’t do that, C. That’s why I gotta do this shit, Carrie. I can’t let a nigga out there walk around breathing knowing that he poses a threat to my family.”
“OK, Kannon. I get it.”
“Frisky was Ceasar’s dog. I took her when I couldn’t find you.”
“Kannon, what the hell? We can’t keep that dog.”
“There’s no telling what he was doing to her. She’s in a better place. Kross trained her.”
“We cannot keep that man’s dog, Kannon.”
“He’s keeping your soul, baby. Until I have you back from him, anybody can get it besides Granny Gibbs.”
Carteay pushed up on her elbow and turned to look back at me. “Have you really been taking Cy’s grandma to bingo?”
“Mm-hmm, she loves me too. She’s gonna need somebody when he’s gone.”
“Kannon, she’s never going to forgive you if you hurt him.”
“She’s never gonna find out. You think I’m gon’ tell the lady I killed her grandson?”
Her eyes dropped before she spoke, so I knew I was in for it. “I’ll never forgive you if you kill him without us knowing if he’s this child’s father, Kannon. There might come a day when you decide you don’t want to raise another man’s child. Where does that leave me?”
“First of all, don’t ever try me like that. Even if we’re not together, I’m going to take care of my child. If you are afraid of being a single mother one day, that’s another story. I can only promise to love, honor, and protect you as long as I can help it. Right now, it feels like that will be forever, but you and I both know that I’m not psychic. Just know that I’m here to stay as long as I can help it.”
“We’re not keeping that dog, Kannon,” Carteay stated, before getting back in her position in front of me.
I kissed her shoulder before I replied. “Yes, ma’am.”
“But now you owe me a puppy,” she added.
