“Fine!” I spat, flopping onto my back and groaning as the dull ache from the residual soreness in my left ankle hit me.

“No, wait! I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled at you.”

I choked down the lump in my throat before responding. “It’s fine, Kannon.”

“Come back over here. I’m just in my head right now. I wanna lay with you if you still want that. If not, I’ll go back to the couch. I haven’t slept in this bed since the night you left anyway.”

My brows snapped together. “Why not?”

“I just haven’t. I was going to try tonight.”

Carefully, I rolled over and crawled up his body until I touched his lips with mine.

“I’m so sorry I hurt you, Kannon. I love you more than anything. More than my career, more than the cameras. I’ll give it all up if?—”

“I’ll never ask you to,” he said, cutting me off.

“Just know if it comes down to that, I’m going to choose you.”

“You’re just saying that because you want to get out of this bed, but I’m not budging. I plan to wait on you hand and foot for the next couple of days.”

“You do know how much of a diva I am, don’t you?”

“I love doing shit for you, and you know it.”

“And I love it. I missed you so much, like as soon as I got into the car to leave, I broke down crying. They made me feel like I didn’t have any choice but to come back.”

“I don’t wanna talk about that tonight, Carteay. Just go to sleep.”

“I gotta pee though,” I whined.

“You literally just peed, Carrie, damn. I wouldn’t have worked out today if I knew I would be carrying your slim, thick ass around all day and night.”

I rolled my eyes knowing that he couldn’t see how big I was smiling in the dark.

“I love you, bighead.”

“I love you too, beautiful. Don’t ever make my big overgrown ass shed a tear again, or that car blowing up is going to be the least of your little friend’s worries.”

I gasped. “What car?”Wait, Kannon cried over me?

“Use that wheelchair and go pee, Carrie Ann Glover.”

“You mean you’re not going to push me in there and watch me to make sure I don’t put any weight on my foot?”

“If you do, you won’t do it too many more times. A hard head makes a soft ass.” He chuckled.

I didn’t want to laugh, but I couldn’t help it. “You think you’re so hilarious.”

“Go ahead and pee and hurry back. Your little fine ass done gave me separation anxiety, dashing up out of here like an escaped hostage and shit. Nigga wasn’t doing nothing but trying to love your crazy ass.” Kannon fussed under his breath as I slid into the wheelchair.

“Next time, get me an electric wheelchair.”

“Next time I’m putting your broke foot mountain ass in the nursing home until you get better. This minor injury is about to worry all the hair off my head. I hate to think what would happen if you were really hurt.”

“Good night, silly. You don’t have to wait up.”

“You know damn well I’m not falling asleep until you make it back.”
