Immediately, I agree with him. Since meeting Makari, I have felt a kinship over him. My instincts scream to keep him in my nest right where Amity is. He may not be my son, but I already love him as though he is mine.
My Alphas help me to stand before gently leading me away from the scene. Each of them touches me somewhere on my body, none of them wanting to let me go too far from them. In return, I grip on to them tightly, needing the strength they provide.
Before we get to the car, Jaiden, the Alpha from OPA comes to stand in front of me. He doesn’t say anything, assessing my state. He gives my Alphas a look before turning back to me.
“Well done, Valentina. Go home with your Alphas and rest. I will take care of everything here.”
With a nod, my men lead me over to one of the many black SUVs pulled up out front of the cabin, Cal guides me into my seat, but not before he pulls me into his arms.
I breathe in his vanilla tobacco scent, the smell calming me instantly.
“I’m so glad you are okay, Little Devil. I don’t know what I would have done if I lost you.”
I agree but refuse to speak. Instead, I hug Cal tighter to me. Eventually we let go of each other. Once in the car, I turn my head, finding both Makari and Amity sitting in the back row. The Omega rubs Amity's arm as she nuzzles into his chest. The moment both of them get a hint of my scent, they look up at me in relief.
Makari is the first to break, launching himself at me.
“You saved me, Mom. You saved me,” he repeats, his words slurred against the tears.
Amity crawls over to us, working her way into my other arm.
“Are we safe now, Mommy?” she questions, her innocent little eyes blurred with her own emotions. Even though I did my best to shield her, it wasn’t enough.
“Yes, baby. We are safe now.”
She bites her lip before looking behind my shoulder to where Olis sits.
“Can we go home now, Pa?”
Olis chokes, and I feel his hand shake as he grips my hip. His eyes water as he gathers our three-year-old in his arms. She grips him just as tightly, needing the support only he can give her.
“Yes, my sweet girl. We are going home.”
I don’t leave my nest for days once we get home. Neither does my little family. Exhaustion claimed each of us the moment the adrenaline wore off. The second we walked through the door of the mansion, I ordered everyone to my nest.
It was almost as though I went through some kind of primal heat, the kind that instead of demanding that I breed, it demanded for me to protect my pack. To keep them by my side until the threat is gone.
Amity watches Vic, Cal and Olis with a keen interest as they dote both over me and Makari. The three Alphas were quick in claiming the Omega as their son, something that had us all in tears again. The moment that they could, Vic had adoption papers signed and filed with the court, officially making Makari one of us. They were also quick in officially adopting Amity.
I make sure to check in with each of my guys in the days after I get home. Together, we process our new reality. We cry together, grit our teeth in frustration and embrace knowing that it is finally over.
A week after the whole fiasco, I finally allowed everyone to leave the nest. It takes me a little bit longer to work up the courage to leave, but I force myself to, knowing that future me will be thankful.
Before I can get too far, Cal collects me in his arms.
“And where do you think you are going, Little Devil?”
I chuckle, turning in his arms to look up at him, “I was planning on stretching my legs unless you have other ideas.”
“We have something we need to rectify before you get too far from your nest.”
My thighs clench, my eyes widening as Cal bends down and throws me over his shoulder. I giggle, as Cal makes his way back through the door to my nest. During my heat, I hadn’t given it much notice but after, I realized that there was an extra room in my suite. One with a nest. I spent hours during my heat perfecting it after finally being given a chance to listen to my primal side.
He drops me down on the nest, not allowing me to bounce before crawling up my body and slamming his lips on me.
He devours me, his lips moving across mine in a sensual dance. I grip his shirt, ripping at the fabric in desperation as my need escalates for him.
“Started without me, I see.”
