I set my phone in my lap and wait for his response as we head towards Orpheus. A few seconds go by and my phone buzzes again.

Reyes-

What’s it say?

Me-

Unknown wants us to meet them in 30 mins and dropped a pin.

Reyes-

Well guess we’re going.

Me-

What about Raven?

Reyes-

Better give her the option. You know how it’ll go if not.

Me-

True. Okay I’ll forward you the location.

I forward the location to him and drop my phone into the cup holder, and then slowly move my hand to rub up Raven’s thigh to get her attention. She looks as if she’s still lost in space, staring out the window. Gently, I squeeze her leg and she turns to look over at me, a grin pulling at her lips.

“What is it, Casanova?” she asks, resting her hand on top of mine.

“Want to go on a little adventure with me and Reyes?” I cock my eyebrow at her in question.

“Hmm, depends on the adventure.” She wiggles her eyebrows back at me seductively and I can’t help but chuckle.

“Angel, nothing sexual. This is one of those adventures you may have to keep yourself out of sight,” I reply, and she looks over at me. It must finally set in what I’m talking about because her eyes grow to the size of saucers.

“Oh, if it’s about that prick, count me the fuck in,” she replies, turning and looking forward. Her face turns serious, but she laces her fingers with mine and squeezes.

I knew she wouldn’t back down, we’re all waiting to see him die. Not just for what he’s done to her but to Luis now. Reyes’ truck comes into the rearview as we drive to the meetup spot. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Raven’s leg shaking like it’s about to get a speeding ticket, and knowing she won’t talk about it, I just soothingly rub her leg to try and let her know it’ll be okay. There’s no way in hell either of us would let anything happen to her. Again.

About thirty minutes later, we’re turning into an old abandoned parking lot and park in the back, away from the street view. Raven crawls into the backseat since the windshield isn’t as dark as the rest.Thank God for tinted windows. We aren’t trying to let him know she’s alive yet. I glance back at her, give her a reassuring smile, and climb out of the car, shutting the door behind me. Walking up to my brother, we stand at thefront of his truck and wait. Waiting is not something I’m good at either. We’re mid-conversation when a blacked out Rolls-Royce pulls up and stops inches from where we are standing. The driver sits in his seat and stares us down until the back door swings open. My anxiety is getting the better of me. I’m clenching and unclenching my fists, my fingers digging into my palms. I’m ready for a fight or whatever is about to go down.We never do this on-the-fly shit. Not with bullshit like this.Reyes starts to bounce back and forth on his toes, his breaths coming heavy enough I can hear them. It’s like he’s gearing up for a damn ring match or something. I take a deep breath and let it out, then elbow him in the side just as Bret comes into view, and all I see is red. Murder, I absolutely want to murder him. Right now, and I don’t care if it’s in public.

“Well, hello boys,” he says, and hearing his voice just adds to the murderous rage I feel.

“You wanted to meet. Here we are!” I seethe, never losing eye contact as he looks between me and my brother.

“So impatient, as always. Not patient like Luis, I take it.” Bret grins a devious grin, but turns to look at Reyes.

“What is it that you want? Is my brother still alive?” Reyes pops off, walking closer to Bret.

“Hold up there, yes, he’s still very much alive. I want a lot of things, but the main thing I want is the little blonde girl from the safe house that was close to Raven,” he says, and it’s like a punch to the gut, because I know exactly who he’s talking about.Blakelyn.

“I’ll see what I can do. Is that it?” I reply flatly, and Reyes’ head snaps in my direction, but I pay him no mind.

“Yes, boy. That’s it. Get me her, and you can have your precious brother back.” He chuckles and turns to walk off. He grabs the top of the door and shoots one last grin our way before sliding into the car. We watch as he pulls off, and as soon as Iturn to walk to my car, Reyes punches me in the ribs, and the hit causes me to sidestep.

“What the fuck are you thinking?” he shouts, shoving at my chest.

“You really think I’d give that little girl up to him? Are you fucking serious? We don’t have a leg to stand on. All he needs to do is think we are going to make the trade. She’s safe with us. Always,” I reply, pushing him back a step to get my space back.
