We sit in silence while he takes it all in. Then he looks over at me.

“Have you messaged Eddie or Zeke?” he asks, looking over at Reyes, who's just staring out the window again.

“No, I’m about to though, or call them to come up. That’s an in-person conversation,” he says, looking over at us. The sadness written across his face is heartbreaking, and I know it’s all my fault.

“Whatever your plan is, I’m going, dammit. With or without y’all, I’m fucking going. He wouldn’t be in this situation if it wasn’t for me, none of you would.” I don’t care how badly I hurt right now. Nothing is stopping my hands from throwing a knifeor pulling a trigger. Nothing will stop me from getting to him.At least it’s not my throwing or shooting hand that’s fucked.

They look at one another and shake their heads at me.

“As much as I want you to go, and we both know you need to, you aren’t in any shape to,” Damien says, and I pin him with a death glare.

“I am going! So help me God, I won’t forgive either of you for this. My wrist can still hold a gun or my knives. At the very least, I still have one good hand. I am not fucking incapacitated,” I try to argue my case and raise a brow at them. I will leave this damn hospital even if I have to sneak out.

They both let out a frustrated sigh and look at one another again. It’s like they are having some kind of secret conversation in their heads. Looking back at me, Reyes walks over and kneels down by the bed.

“Fine, you can go. You deserve this more than anyone. Besides, even if we did it without you, you’d still show up and kick our asses for it later,” he says, a grin pulling at his lips.

“Bet your ass I would. Now, call the dads and tell them we need a conversation. I’m going to sit here and try to enjoy this food before it gets cold,” I say, and they both pull their phones out to make the calls.

Sitting back against the pillows, I take a huge bite out of my burger and moan as the flavors hit my tastebuds. “And to think, I almost died and would’ve never gotten this again,” I joke, and they pause mid conversation, both giving me a stern look.

“Too soon,” they say in unison, and I just laugh, digging back into my food. As good as the food is, I feel like I can’t enjoy it fully. Nothing will feel right until I get him back, the missing piece of our dynamic.I’m coming, Sunshine, just please don’t stop fighting. I need you to hang on.

Chapter 13

Reyes

Getting off the phone with Eddie, I look over at Raven and Damien. “I’ll be right back. I have something I need to give Zeke when he gets here. Eddie said he’s on his way, so I’m sure they’ll both be here in no time,” I say as she takes another bite of food, and Damien hangs up the phone. She mumbles something around a mouthful, and Damien nods, holding in his laugh. Spinning on my heel, I walk out the door.

Getting to my truck, I unlock it and lift the console. Grabbing the syringe I found in the shop and breaking the tip off so I don’t accidentally stab myself with it, I shove it into my pocket. Walking to the elevator and riding it back up, the doors slide open, and I’m headed towards Raven’s room when I see Zeke and Eddie approaching her door.

“Hey, before you go in there, I have something for y’all,” I shout before they can walk in. Turning their heads, they both look at me, as do the nurses, for being loud.

“What ya’ got?” Eddie asks, raising a brow in question. Zeke shares the same expression.

“I found this laying on the shop floor when I went and dropped Raven’s bike off.” Reaching for the syringe and pulling it from my pocket, I hand it over to Zeke. “I think when they took Luis, they drugged him. Had to of, he wouldn’t have just let someone grab him up,” I say low enough so only they can hear and so I don’t draw any more attention to myself. They both look down at it, then back at me.

“We’ll get it looked at and see what exactly it is. More than likely, it’s a high dose of ketamine. I’ll make sure though,” Zeke says, sliding it into his suit pocket and reaching for the door, opening it as we all walk into the room.

Raven looks up, and Eddie rushes to her side.

“You okay, kiddo, what’s going on?” he asks, his voice full of concern.

“I’m okay, I just need to tell y’all I remember. Everything. So, I figured that was better to do in person than over the phone,” she informs them, looking at all of us.

Sitting in the chair, I listen to the story again and watch as they take it all in. My phone dings in my pocket, sliding it out and looking down, seeing that, once again, it’s from an unknown number.

Unknown:

Just landed and God the air smells here. Where is a good place to meet in this town?

Me:

Prolly only smells to you cause’ you’re from the city. Smells like money to me. I have a spot at the airstrip. I’ll drop a pin and meet you in a couple hours.

Unknown:

That’s no money I have ever smelled. Don’t keep me waiting long.
