“I do not like that look on your face,” he growled. “What is going on in that head of yours?”

Turning to her, he grasped hold of her chin so she couldn’t glance away.

She sighed and shifted around in her seat.

“You’re blaming yourself again, aren’t you?” he said to her.

Drat.

What to say? If she lied, she’d be in trouble. If she didn’t lie, she’d be in trouble.

It was a bad situation to be in, quite honestly.

“You are. Faith, what have I told you?”

“Um, well, you’ve told me lots of things, if I’m honest. You might need to be a bit more specific.”

“Fine. Here it is, you are the most important thing in my world. That means your comfort and safety come first. Because I love you and if anything were to happen to you, my life would be over. I don’t want to hear any more guilt from you. Got it?”

She bit her lip. She didn’t quite agree with him, but his tone told her that would be the smartest move.

“Got it.”

“Good girl. I hear or see you thinking any differently, and you’re in big trouble.”

Faith bit her lower lip. “What kind of big trouble?”

“The kind that ends with you over my knee. And then my head between your legs, teasing you until you cry and plead with me to come, only I won’t let you. That kind of trouble.”

“I really don’t like that kind of trouble, Daddy.”

“I didn’t think you would,” he said dryly as they headed out on their trip. “I put your pacifier into your bag. In an hour’s time you’re going to have a nap.”

“I’m not really that tired.”

“You have dark marks under your eyes and you’re pale. I don’t like that. You’re tired, you just don’t think you are. So you’re going to have a nap,” he said firmly

Faith sighed as she turned her head to take him in. He was lucky he was so darn handsome.

Because he sure was bossy.

As she felt a yawn develop, she turned her head. She didn’t want him to see that.

Then he’d think he was right. And he already had a massive head.

“I saw that,” he told her.

“How could you see anything, Daddy?” she grumbled. “You’re supposed to be watching the road. Naughty Daddy, are you not paying attention while driving?”

Was she trying to distract him from the yawn?

Why yes, she was.

Was it working?

Probably not. Reuben was like a dog with a bone sometimes.

“I can do two things at once and I also know that you need a nap.”
