As he got closer, Lewis inhaled deeply, his head snapping round to look at Tim. “He’s got another shift—”

The words were torn from his mouth as Aaron sprang at him, the punch landing square on his jaw and sending him flying into the cavern wall, gun skittering off to the side. He crumpled to the floor, unconscious, but he wouldn’t stay that way for long.

As Aaron dived for the gun, Tim roared, Zac joining him, and the pair of them charged at Aaron in a blur of movement.

Fuck, they were going to kill him.

Logan pulled on his handcuffs, but with the iron sapping his strength and his body still caught in the half-shift, they rattled uselessly against the chair.

All he could do was watch, helpless, as Aaron struggled to fend off Tim and Zac as they took turns attacking him.

Fucking shift, Aaron.

Blood splattered the ground, the air filled with the sounds of fighting, and Logan was so intent on watching the scene in front of him, he didn’t see the black wolf sneaking down the stairs until it had almost reached the bottom and let out an ear-splitting roar.

Who the fuck was that?

He wasn’t McKillan pack. Logan didn’t recognise the scent, and yet... it still seemed faintly familiar. He had a moment to worry if this was about to be three against one, but the black wolf charged forward, pulling Tim off Aaron by his shoulder, teeth sinking in deep.

The tang of blood in the air got thicker, stronger, and the four of them fought. More evenly matched now, Logan couldn’t tell who was winning. Wolf against wolf. Tim and Aaron remained in their human forms as they struggled to get to Tim’s gun where he’d left it on the side with his supplies.

Logan’s gaze darted between them all, trying to spot any injuries, but his mind was slow, vision blurry, and all he could see was blood.

Whose it was he couldn’t be certain.

Movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention, and he glanced over to see Lewis begin to stir.

Oh no.

Lewis was big. He’d tip the balance in their favour for sure.

Giving it one last try, Logan pulled on the cuffs with all the strength he could muster, but nothing happened. “Bastard,” he cried in frustration.

Lewis pushed up onto his hands and knees, then rubbed his fingers along his jaw as he seemed to remember what had just happened. “Dirty fucking traitor,” he hissed under his breath. Cracking his neck from side to side, Lewis turned to Logan. “Watch. We’re going to rip them to pieces.”

“Aaron,” Logan yelled, as Lewis rushed towards them. “Watch out!”

Aaron had Tim pinned to the cavern floor, both hands around his throat, but they didn’t stay that way for long. Lewis grabbed Aaron by the shoulders, hauling him off and throwing him across the ground.

Aaron skidded to a halt. As he struggled to get to his feet, Lewis shot towards him, kicking him off balance again. With a pained grunt, Aaron lunged for Lewis’s leg, twisting it sharply and toppling him over.

Tim shot to his feet, rubbing at his throat, and glanced over at Logan. “You’re lucky Paul wants you alive. But we don’t need any of your fucking friends.” He was too busy glaring to notice what Logan had seen. The two wolves were snarling and charging at each other, fur bloodied, and Lewis was struggling to get the better of Aaron.

But they weren’t the only ones in the cavern any more.

On silent feet, Max crept in to join them, clinging to the shadows at the side of the cave.

Face murderous.

“Why don’t you take all of us back?” Logan asked, trying to keep Tim’s attention on him.

Tim narrowed his eyes. “Why, do they know more than you?”

Logan shrugged. “Maybe?” He saw Max bend down and pick something up off the ground.

Lewis’s gun.

She raised it high, aiming at Tim.
