Rob shook his head. “He’s already planned training with Cole in mind. As far as he’s concerned, it’s a done deal.”
Thank fuck for that.
“Anyway, I better head back.” Rob thumbed over his shoulder. “Just wanted to let you know that keeping you out of it wasn’t my idea.” He went to leave, but Logan grabbed his arm.
“Why were you there anyway? You’re not part of his team.”
“Because Jacob told him he couldn’t talk to Cole without a mediator present—meaning you. So Paul, being the cock he is, spotted me in the office and made me accompany him.”
So Paul had already spoken to Jacob?
“Pretty sure Jacob doesn’t know that Paul took me and not you, if that’s what you’re thinking. He’s a sneaky fucker.”
Logan felt marginally better after talking with Rob, but he still had Cole’s parental problem to sort out. “Thanks for telling me.” He clapped him on the shoulder. “Catch you later.”
He watched Rob go, scenting the air to make sure no one else had dropped by while they were talking, then jogged back over to Cole.
“Who was that?” Cole asked as soon as Logan was in earshot. He stood there, hands shoved in his pockets, expression wary.
“Rob.”
“Was he at my house? I couldn’t be sure from over here.” He glanced over where Rob had been, then back at Logan.
“Yeah, he was.”
“What the fuck did that bastard want?” The anger in Cole’s voice immediately got Logan’s back up, and he snapped without thinking.
“Hey, watch your mouth!” he growled. “Rob’s a good guy. Paul might have been a lot worse if Rob hadn’t been there.”
Cole took a step back, mouth hanging open and eyes wide.
Shit.
“Fuck, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snarl at you. It’s been a crap day.”
“Oh yeah, you’vehad a bad day,” Cole scoffed. “I suppose mine’s been fucking peachy!”
“I know, I know.” Logan blew out a breath and gestured to the bench. “Sorry for losing my temper. Now please sit down again, I need to talk to you.”
Thankfully Cole sat, even if it was as far away from Logan as he could get, and Logan told him what Rob had said.
“So does that mean they’re not watching us?”
“I need to talk to Jacob to be sure, but that’s the way it looks.”
Cole looked hopeful. “So it’s not too dangerous to get me out of here?”
Drawing his bottom lip between his teeth, Logan debated how to answer that. “In theory, no, but you brought up your mum and her job. There’s still that aspect to consider.”
“It won’t be a problem if you take them as well.”
“Cole—”
“Surely it’d look less suspicious if we all died in a car crash or something? No?”
“Possibly, but that’s another two dead bodies they’d have to find. It’s not easy making someone disappear.”
Cole scooted close; his earlier trepidation seemingly forgotten. “But it’s possible?”
